Just picked up some 6" KC Hilite Daylighters today... I have no idea how I should mount them... They will hardly be used. I need some help on how/where I should mount them.

First off, I do not plan on getting a TJM/ARB/Brush guard so mounting on those is not an option.

Here are some pics... The lights are not the KC's but something round I found... What do you guys think? The first two would be directly on my bumper so once I put the holes, they are on for good. The third would be a bit more challenging... Basically get the Westin safari bar for the tacoma's and do some kind of extended brackets for it to fit, then mount the lights to it.

So what do you guys think?

The push bar will probably be more secure - i.e. the lights won't vibrate as much. But since you won't use them that often, not sure if that's a big deal for you. I used to have lights mounted to my stock bumper and it worked out great. They vibrated a bit, but it wasn't noticable from the driver's seat. I say go with option 2 (on the bumper, towards the outside of the grill) - just make sure they aren't too deep to fit there... I had to drill out part of my grill to get my lights to fit.

You might want to check with Andreas (aowRS) here on the board and see what he did to mount some Hella Rallye 4000's on the front bumper of his '01 4Runner. He has some custom brackets made that reinforce the lights so they do not vibrate. I can't find a picture right now.

I went to Pepboys to return my chrome KC's today for some black ones so it would match the safari bar but they didn't have any others in stock. I ended up just returning them and found a Pilot NAVIGATOR box, those $29.99 fog lights, with a set of Hella's in them... I ended up purchasing it. Looks like it was a return without a box and they just stuck the Hella's in it... Didn't have a cover but did include the Pilot wiring. I'm going to check to see if they work and if so, I'll probably run the wiring today and wait for the safari bar.

Anyone know what type of brackets I need by any chance to get the safari bar to work? I hear the bar attaches only to the front tow points.

Quick update...

The Safari bar finally arrived... I am a bit dissapointed that I had to remove my shackle hangers because of the way the bar mounts. I will be listing these with shackles on the classifieds soon... if anyone is interested...

I had to figure out a way to extend the mount to clear the bar from my 00 bumper. Ended up using extended bolts, ghetto pipe thing, and some washers to get a 2.5" extention. Bar now barely clear and I got the Hella's mounted...

Sorry no pics yet. I just emailed Roger to get a pair of his Ultimate 3" lift blocks which I will be using to replace the ghetto pipe and washer things with... Once I get them on, I will post pics...

You're giving up two recovery points for lights that, in your words, you'll hardly use?

How much for the hangers and shackles?

I'll probably never use the recovery points either... There actually may be a way for me to still use the shackle hangers but I would need to pound the crap out of the factory skid and mount it backwards... May be too far in though.

I will be selling it with 3/4" TrailDuty shackles for $110 plus actual shipping.

you guys crack me up... Its for the shackles and the Sonoran Steel shackle hangers... The Sonoran Steel shackle hangers run $150 new and I got the Trail Duty shackles for $25 shipped...

Decided to take a pic of my ghetto modification to make the bar fit... I hope I get the blocks from Roger by the end of the week.









Note that it is not centered yet... I figure why waste time centering it now when I will need to recenter it when I get the blocks on. Also note that I have a 2" BL.

On the first picture you posted it shows the bar leaning in towards your bumper, do you think that the blocks you are getting will allow this gap to be uniform? or is that just because it is not made for a 4runner? looks good either way
