I don't mind the higher gas prices, because frankly I am sick of oversized SUV and Trucks. My 4Runner gets 18MPG, even if gas prices hit $5-6 gallon I still won't complain because it's my choice to drive it. If people choose to drive a Suburban or Expedition they better not so much as fart a complaint about gas prices, it's their choice to drive a 6,000 lbs SUV, no one is forcing them. If they CHOSE to have 7 kids and need a car that big again, that was their choice. I heard people complaining on the news about not being able to take a vacation or road trip because of fuel prices. Come on, if an extra $100 in fuel is going to be the difference on whether to go on vacation or not then perhaps you're not in a financial position to be taking a vacation anyways. My point is this, as a nation we've chosen to ignore energy alternatives for decades, all the while our manufacturers have been having a race to see who can build the biggest SUV and/or cars. USA still has the cheapest gas in the free world, so again, no complaints here, I spent 5 years in Germany spending $5-6/gallon, it's life. They have smaller cars there, and heaps of diesel and propane alternatives, this is just the wakeup call the US needs.

Gee, I thought 3rd gens were supposed to do much better than that (athough, I'm sure LA traffic doesnt help). I got 285 out of my last tank (city).

My plan of action is: Spark plugs, clean O2 Sensor(s), clean MAF, clean throttle body and maybe switch to an aftermarket air filter. I will also be buying new tires, since my Bridgestone AT's are about toast. I am hoping that will help.

Since the recent spike in gas prices, I've implemented a 'no aggression' driving attitude that has increased my mileage signifcantly. I recommend everyone else do the same. Slow accelerations and a calm demeanor.
Oh, and an all-out boycott of exxon mobil.

I have done the same-I have kept my work truck below 70mph, accelerate like a grandma and always keep it below 2000rpm-the result, gas mileage has gone from an average of 15.5-16mpg before up to my last tank at 17.8mpg. This is on a 2004 Z-71 Ext Cab with the 5.3 V8, auto, 4x4 of course, 3.73 gears, 285/75/16 tires, Warn 8274 winch, at least 500 pounds of tools and such, and probably another 200 pounds of mud. About 60% driving interstate, 20% backroads, 15% offroad, 5% city.
