duffdog, this is for a 3rd gen right? are you talking about the wires off the harness? not the wires that plug into my aftermarket deck...?

hey everyone, just in case you are wondering...I finally unpluged my antenna. I concluded that you can't just unplug the relay to the antenna. You DON'T have to remove the flares to get to the antenna plug. If you have running boards, remove the endcap to the board, its 2 screws underneath and one bolt in the wheel well, slide off. Then remove 2-3 bolts that hold the plastic well closest to the antenna. The trick is to go under the trunk, and pull the black plastic well back alittle from the engine side, not the flare side. The plug will be right there. =)

Kinda of hard to explain, let me know if you need more!

Ishinc or anyone can you explain this in a little more detail? The trunk part has me confused...

Thanks

well what i did on my 2nd gen and just recently on my 3rd gen is just do an inline switch at the antenna motor.. as mentioned just remove a few clips of the liner and pull it back, it actually will bend out of the way very easily. next locate the wires going to the antenna and folow it back to a connector plug that is higher up on the fender. unclip this to make the splice easier. determine the power wire and splice in your wires and run to a switch. I chose a deck plate switch that i got from a junk yard for 50 cents and as well ran a wire from interior lights to supply light to the nice orange circle on the switch.

There has got to be somebody who has figured out an easy way to remove the push-in style clips. Or a place where I can get replacements.

Thanks

Well there are many varietys of the push in clips, and really any will do as long as they are the same size. which type? the ones with the square back that you have to press to corners? the ones that have an internal part that kind of work like wall anchors? you can get these clips from pretty much any body shop, or auto store for next to nothing

What he said. I did this to mine just last week. pull the trans shift knob, pull the transfer shift knob, pop the plastic cover off the center console.

Just to the left of the ashtray, there is a tan/brown colored box with one phillips screw retaining it. back the screw out, unplug the harness that plugs into it, and lo and behold, no more antennae motor buzzing.

Radio, tape player work fine. Since the O.E.M. cd player has already bit it, it doesn't play.

Reassemble parts previously removed.

Talking unplug relay

here's the deal. just unplug the power antenna relay. it affects nothing else. it is the brown box mounted below the stereo. takes maybe two minutes to get to through the center dash face plate. if you have real small hands and are real limber you can reach behind from under drivers sideand unplug the connector. i unplugged it and the antenna stays down and still picks up stations very well. if you wanted to wire in a switch for the antenna to go up or down it would be much easier doing it from that connector. i think it is the yellow wire that triggers the motor but not sure. probably have to look at a wiring diagram. anyway just wanted to point an easier and cleaner way than tearing out your fender well.[

Thanks for the info Roadking, made it easy to put my switch in. One thing though, it isn't the yellow wire, it is the blue wire that needs to be cut and hooked up to the switch. Thanks again.
