Help with rear window : it's loose in the rear hatch!

Ok, my rear window has been making some weird noises when I was lowering it. Namely, the last few inches were very noisy. I figured that it was just some rust in the mechanism.

Sure enough, I took the hatch apart and lubed every rusted place I could find.

It did help a bit, but not much.

Well, yesterday, I wanted to lower it, and it started going down only on the right hand side.

I stopped lowering it and started closing it. I had to help it by hand, and it wouldn't go all the way up. I can also wiggle it a lot.

It feels like it's completely loose inside the hatch, like its mountings have been torn off or something. When it's opened 6-7 inches, I can grab the window and play around with it.

WTF is going on???

You got in there before, get back in there again and take a look at the windows' track mounts as they appear to have come loose..., perhaps due to age..., perhaps due to vandals.

Either way, tighten them up and you should be good to go.

Thanks, I will do that.

I do not need that to break now.

Hello folks, I too have a loose rear window. There is lots of play. Thank you 94x4, I'm going to open mine up for the first time. i just bought this, it's 10 years old, and I'm going to look for loose track mounts. Can you answer a 4x4 question for me? I've never had an automatic transfer case, my trucks have always been manual. This 4-Runner will not switch to 4-wheel high unless I have the transmission in neutral. The book says I should be able to switch at any speed under 65 mph. I would understand if it was 4-wheel low, but not 4-wheel high. Also, once I got it in 4 low, it was stuck and wouldn't switch back when I went to 2-wheel high. It kept beeping and lfashing the 4-low light until I shut down the engine for a bit and let it sit. Can you give me any advise? Thanks

..."i just bought this, it's 10 years old"...

Are you saying you have a 2003 or newer 4Runner? That would be a 4th gen. You are welcome on this forum but I've found better answers for my 4th gen on http://www.toyota120.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=2

The rear hatches on 4th gens seem to rust at a faster rate than the 3rd gens and there are plenty of write ups about the rear windows. I have a 2008 that hasn't had any problems yet.
