HELP! how hot does your transmission get?
im just wondering, how hot does your transmissions get? driving from Mpls to Mankato, almost 100miles doing about 70 all the way there, my transmission stick gets pretty hot. its still touchable, but definitly around 90 degrees. is that normal?
btw, i just put in new Redline 70w90 trans oil in the trans and in the gearbox itself. my 4runner is an 89 with 187,000 miles, V6 4WD.

i donno. ive never had a truck before! but the transmission shifter is pretty hot on long drives. i dont get any lights on the dash, but i was just curious if it should be that warm.

Oh, the shifter. I thought you meant you crawl under and feel the bellhousing
If you are worried about it, pull the fill plug and check for excessive shavings (if it is a 5 speed) and smell the fluid.

I noticed mine got pretty hot last winter before my rebuild, it was getting hot in the snow! That freaked me out, its below freezing and my shifter handle is HOT! We'll see how the new, quite, smooth trany is this winter

hmm.. ok. well, i put in Redline 70w90 in both tranny and transfer.
also, we do have a light on the dash that warns if the transfercase/tranny overheats, correct? i cant tell.
