HD Video of my Supercharged 4Runner sand draging

Hi

It has been a long while since I posted on this forum. I still have the 4Runner..it is flat rocking ....even with 156K miles on it.

I just replaced the ACT 6Puck clutch after chattering away over 50K miles with it.

Anyway... I thought some of you may be interested in this High Definition video I took this past summer when I was at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in MI. The video is from inside the cabin and I am taking on several quads and a Chevy truck...

The file is HUGE... (237 meg) and you will need Windows Media Player capable of HD video (v11 does it nicely)

I do NOT have streaming video capability so you need to right click the link and save to your computer.

RIGHT CLICK THIS LINK AND SAVE TO YOUR COMPUTER

that's awesome man! I grinned when I heard all the clutch chatter...sounds like mine, although yours was way worse...obviously on it's way out. How's that street disk working out for you?

Do you have the sprung version? Mine (un sprung) made that sound and chatter for all 50K+ miles... It was embarrassing taking off at an intersection... folks would sh.i.t when they were next to me...

The six puck disk, PP and flywheel looked in surprisingly good shape upon removal... the disk was very thin from the start and honestly, I don't think it looks much thinner after 50K miles

The street disk was installed yesterday... I had mega trouble getting the pedal set correctly.. still not sure if it is OK... have to mash it to the floor to get release and still maintain some clearance between through out and PP...

Otherwise.. it works well... not sure if it would hold at the drag strip but I have another toy for that (2005 STi)

Yeah...I've gathered a bunch of info from your site over the last 6 months...2005 WRX STI...jealous!

I'm running a SPEC StageII Kevlar...I tried to go with an ACT street, but those friggin guys kept insisting that they didn't have a model that fit a 98 4runner (?!?) and wouldn't sell me one due to return issues. My SPEC chatters just a bit after it gets warm and *alot* after I've really worked some WOT runs. I hate taking off from intersections as well...I've only had it on for about 10k miles and don't think it'll last over 25k hence, I wanted to ask you what model number you bought for the ACT. Good inspiring vid.

Hum.. I wonder if their returns are due to the tough pedal adjustment.. it is very smooth but I need to mash it to the floor to get any release...

I bought the clutch from Carolina Clutch, the ACT part number is: TA2-HDSS

The shop that installed it could not adjust it to work at all. I had to take the day off work to adjust it myself... I have 1/4 inch clearance between pressure plate and through out bearing when pedal is out... when adjusted this way, you need to push it in all the way to carpet to get the clutch to disengage. It does not slip on the street <already burned the tires off the rims (well you know) but it is on the edge...>

hrm...I heard from a few guys that run ACTs that they've had to replace their release bearings due to excessive wear. Not sure if that might be an issue there. I'm not all that saavy on the mechanics of clutches though. Obviously you've checked everything else though right...fluid, clutch cylinders etc.

I believe it... if the adjustment is not tweaked very carefully the release bearing will ride on the pressure plate and cause premature wear. My ACT 6 puck was very easy to adjust and it lasted over 50K miles.. the release bearing is still in good shape (as is the disk, pressure plate and flywheel)

Actually, that is a good question and simple answer.. I used a cheap tripod: two legs in front of the rear seats to floor and one leg on rear seat.. I use same set up in my STi for all in cabin videos (some going down the 1/4 mile drag strip). I use pillows between the front tripod legs and rear of front seats to keep it from moving around

Dude, who hosts your website? I was able to pull the video down at 1.2 MB/s here at work. Yes, that's Megabytes. That is the fastest download I have ever seen in my life! Hope the vid is cool, it's ready for me to watch before I even finished typing this....

Well I was able to download it really fast but the framerate is like watching a slide show on my P4 centrino laptop. The clarity was awesome though Time to find a faster machine.
