Gear question

I was wondering if I took the gears out or a 4cyl 4runner and used them w/ my 6cyl would it help me get my 33's going? Would I see any gain? Thanks

Depends, do you know what the difference in ratios are. It would help you bottom end, i.e. off the line, but if its too big of an increase, you may loose some topend i.e highway speed. You don't want to be revving really high trying to drive on the highway. Just a thought...

I am not sure of the ratios. I was hoping to get someone that does lol. My 4runner does not see much highways driving!

Wecome to the forum!!

I think you have the 4.11 gears just like the 4 cyl trucks. If yours are different, they would be the 4.33 which are better towards what you want. Others avail would be the 4.56 and the 4.88. It was a real nut to do the front on my freinds 87 PU. He bought the whole front and the rear diff assy with 4.56 gears to do his bigger tires and all the crap he carries.

Do you know where the data plate is on your firewall (sorry, 89 is on the door jamb)? It yould have the code, which you can figure out your ratio from. If you can take a digital pic of it, mabe I or someone can tell you what it is. I also think there is a link to the chart on the tech pages somewhere.

Here is the link, I couldn't find it on our tech page.
