Front end grinding with popping sound

Hey guys, I'm at work so kinda limited to search but I did find a few possibilities searching google. Most threads lead to nowhere though, so not truly satisfied.

Anyways, I'm having a lot of grinding noise coming from the front end it seems and gets worse the faster i go. This morning a popping noise developed, no matter what the speed. Possibly passenger side. The grinding has been there for a little while but I always thought it was my tires humming. It wasn't till recently its gotten louder and I can feel it in the pedal and floorboard. When I got to work this morning my truck was acting weird. As I was slowing down and the vibration stopped for a second, the truck rolled weird like I had no power to the front end, as if it were just coasting. Then a split second later I felt a slight kick like a feeling when you a trans slips outta gear and it pops back in (automatic trans here btw). I didn't get a chance to throw it in 4wd to see if any grinding or popping would stop. I'll check it later though.

One possibility I'm looking at is the brakes. It is passed due time for me to get new brakes on the entire truck. Ive had some wobbling while braking which leads me to believe the rotors are warped. Also if I brake really hard in slippery road conditions my front tires will lock up and make a horrible teeth grinding sound. It did this this morning while turning and slightly braking to pull into the driveway to my work. Braking does not stop the grinding or popping however which makes me think it's a different issue, my brakes are just another problem as well.

Another conclusion is the front bearing(s) causing it but I just don't know. I'm not leaking any fluids up front what so ever.

What's really bothering me is the fact my front end seemed to lose power for a second and kicked back in. I don't know what to think about that.

Any help or solutions would be greatly appreciated. I'll probably put it in the shop to get the front end looked at some time this week.

Thanks in advance

Waldz

yup, and when you replace the rotors also do the wheel bearings as well and lube up those spindle bushings if those have em.

So It might be a little more serious than I thought. On the way home tonight from work I kept it close to 40-50mph. As I was driving and accelerate a little bit or lightly step on the brakes, all the noise would go away. No more grinding, popping, or any kinda of vibrations. At one point I think I drove about a 1/4 mile before it came back and it is such a horrible sound to say the least. Then my ABS light came on. I would drive a little more, lightly hit the brakes or accelerate and it would go away again, but not all the time it would do this. The ABS light would go out during this time and when the grinding came back, the light would come on again. Could this be a cv axle ordeal. The popping almost seams like it's coming from the passenger cv. I stuck it in 4wd before I left the office and drove around. No more than 10-15 mph though and the sound persisted.

I'm truly clueless.

the popping sounds like a cv axle and the vibration is prob. a rotor that needs turning/replacing

Popping Noise.

I have a popping noise only when the wheel cranked to the left and going over an object. Would this be a CV?
Thank you!

just for the sake of other people having the same problem and searching.. the answer was my cv-axle. Replaced it and no more problems.
