Ford 302 Engine i 4runner swap transmission+transfer case problems
I have a 1990 toyota 4runner it has a 5 inch suspension lift and 3 inch body lift. I have the Ford 302 V8 in the truck and I am having problems finding a ford transfer case that will fit in the frame rails. I think I have a ford 205 transfer case and it hits the torsion bar (I think that is what it is called) and frame rail. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has done this swap before and could help me out. I would like to know what transmission and tranfer case would fit best. Also if there is anyone out there that has done this before if you have any documentation about what you did I would love to take a look at what you did on your truck. I am running a Ford AOD Transmission

You did not say what transmission you are running. There are numerous adapters out there that hook up a Yota tcase. I would probably try a T5 and yota Tcase adapter. Sweet setup from what I hear. Does the NP 205 "clock" to different positions? That might be an alternative too.

personally i wouldn't use a T5 -- weaker than a W56. if you go ford, go all the way and put in a T18, NP435, or the best(albeit most expensive), NV4500.
all of them(i'm at least pretty sure the NV4500 is toy case compatible) will mate to a toyota case with an adapter.

Really? I guess it depends on which one, there have been a lot of variations, but the 90-95 V8 Mustangs are very durable, and the one in the Cobras can handle 450 hp. Try that with a W56....

the problem being their use. they'd see a LOT more abuse in a truck than a car on the street.
lots of supras with W58s out there pushing a few hundred ponies without problems

He used a t-5,but i think it would be less difficult to use any 85-95 toyota transmission and transfercase.NORTHWESTOFFROAD sells an adapter for this application.
