Flare measurements for 1st generation 4Runner

Anyone have the height of the flares they are using, looking to see how much coverage I can get when i cut the rust out of the 1/4's....also the width they stick out would be helpful. Any pics how they were mounted as well.

There's no set answer. The width of the flares is a function of the width of the flares. Buy a skinny set, and they aren't to wide. Make your own out of conveyer belting, and you can have flares that are several feet wide. The choice is yours.

My flares, btw, are cheap garden edging picked out of a trash can. ~3" wide and free.

I guess I am asking about the Bushwackers and any other flares out there then...I want the most coverage over the rust I cut out but don't stick out much.

Post a pic of your rust. I had rust forming around the chrome in the wells... had a shop sand out the rust, put some rustproof sealer on it, and then slapped the bushwackers on over it. I never painted it since the bushwackers covered it. My rust only extended about an inch so I knew I would be covered. I think you are good up to a couple of inches.

Do you have some pics of the flares mounted? Are they they Extenda-flares or the Cut-Outs? Can you post them or e-mail them to me at FSRBIKER@Optonline.net My truck has bondo from a previous repair i am going to remove and treat the rust(looks like 1-3" up the panel) but until I get some panels to weld on the truck up right I want it to look half way decent.

Thanks for the link, truck looks real good with the Line-X. I have a similar idea but follow the lines over the flares as well, have to photoshop it first though to see if it will look OK.

How do those flares attach, is it just tape on the top? Some of the bottom lip of the 1/4's is gone so i hope you don't drill into that as well.

No tape. You do put screws in. About 6 per flare or so... you attach a rubber strip on the lip of the flare where it meets your truck's body so that it doesn't scratch it.

I considered the linex up and over the flares, but thought it would be too much...

PM me if you have more questions...

Anyone used this from JC Whitney? If so how easy does it conform to the body? Does it come pre-bent at all?
