FJ Crusier Wheels with Tundra Brake Upgrade??

Will these wheels work with the Tundra Brake Upgrade?

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/a...rd-gen-143914/

I know that the wheel has to be 16" for the upgrade to work, but that's with Taco/Runner wheels. What about with these FJ wheels?

Thanks!

I just got off the phone with my local dealer concerning these wheels. Problem is that I want the black ones....I was told they are special edition wheels and that you have to have the vin # off an FJ to get them.

Do I have any other options to acquire these wheels?

Yes, here is an option.
http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/parts-sale/

Watch the classifieds there, or put up a thread wanting a set.
The above forum is FJ Cruiser only, so there may be a few on there selling their wheels.

Man...there are already guys on there wanting to buy the same wheel with no replies as of yet.

This may take a while....

Are there any aftermarket wheels that look similar to the FJ wheels? Oh...and I want black wheels as well.

Right now I'm running the stock J15x7JJ wheels with 31x10.5 R15 Procomp ATs on them. I'd like the overall size to stay the same if not a little bit bigger...which I would accomplish with 265/75 R16 tires on those FJ wheels.

I just don't want to have to wait forever to get the wheels.

I know I know...patience is a virtue!

So why not find an FJ with those wheels and get the VIN # off of it? Or is that illegal...

Or are you saying Toyota requires you to actually own the vehicle in order to purchase an additional set of these black fj wheels.

Why not get some other FJ wheels and PC or Paint them? There is a guy on UY that has done a write up about using the wheels on his 3rd gen. He used spacers and i do believe he has the tundra upgrade.

Not illegal, but Toyota checks VIN against registered owner's name as reported by dealer. No match = no deal. That applies to any TRD SE specific parts. I had to do that to get a spare set of manual and t-case shift knobs.

That makes sense then.

Quattro15 in that case, find an SE FJ owner who's willing to purchase the wheels in his name and you give him the cash for them. Otherwise, you'll have to keep an eye out on ebay or FJ forums to find guys selling them. I agree, they do look nice though.

I could do that but it'd cost more $$ in the end of the day. I'd rather just buy some....getting someone that has the wheels to get them for me is a good idea though!

I'll have to look into it, is there anyone on YT that has them on their FJ?

Are there any aftermarket wheels that are of Toyota quality??

Procomp has that buy three and get one free sale, I think it's going on right now actually.

What would the specs be on the 15x7 wheels that I've got right now. I'd want the new tire/wheel combo to be about the same width (where it is flush with my fender flare).

What is the bolt pattern, backspacing, and offset and such on my wheel?

Also, how will I know they will fit with the Tundra upgrade that I'm wanting to do? If it's just a guessing game then I may want to go with Toyota wheels....are there any other Black wheels from factory that will fit Tacomas??

1999 Toyota Tacoma TRD SR5
J15x7JJ
31x10.5 R15

I've searched for these specs but I never come up with anything. Maybe I need to learn how to search better?

Anyhow....I think that my best bet could be some aftermarket wheels unless I find some 16 inchers at a salvage yard or something.

Thanks everyone!

I am very fussy about what goes on my FJ.
Pro Comp 7089s have been on since last summer.

They have good clearance too, and they clear the HUGE rotors that are on the FJs.

They are very durable too.
My goal was to run my stock alloy FJ wheels during the winter, but I was to lazy to take the Pro Comps off.
Needless to say, the 7089s never got washed once during the winter.

Come spring and the first rigwash, they cleaned right up and looked brand new again.
I have not put any type of wax on them.
I would say they are the best wheels I have ever owned in my life.

First black wheels I have ever owned too, and I think they really set the rig off with them.

Those are the EXACT Procomps I was looking at!!!

What size would I need for my Tacoma for a good fit? I have the fender flares and such like I was saying. 16x8 I would guess? What bolt circle, offset, and backspacing though??

Sorry if I sound redundant...I just don't wanna order these things, put tires on them, and then mount them and have problems.

Thanks Corey

We have a Pro Comp 4WD Parts Warehouse guy on the forum, but I forget his username.

He would be of more help.
16x8 sounds about right.

I think mine are 4.5" offset, and zero backspacing, I really forget
The part number of mine though contains all of that info.

A good shop or a Pro Comp dealer such as 4WD Parts should be able to tell you what size.

They really are great wheels.
I find myself lusting, ah, er staring at them all the time when I drive by my rig at work.

Thanks for the info Corey, I'm going to start gathering parts for the Tundra Upgrade now. I'm going to get the 7089s and probably run BF Goodwrench ATs on them.

I'm gettin excited just thinking about it.

Cool, I am sure you will be happy with the wheels.
When Les Schwab Tires mounted them up for me, they used small Gorilla Tuner lugnuts.

I thought they were just for the ricer crowd, but they are for 4x4s too.
They take a special socket that comes with them, so it is almost like a security key for them.

I also have Gorilla locks too though, one per wheel.
Your tire center can set you up with them if they will fit.

Fantastic tires.
Although the 265x70x17s road better than the current 285x70x17 ones.

They are made in the same molds as Cooper SSTs from what Pro Comp told me.
Pro Comp, Cooper, Dick Cepek, all come from the same factory.

They are nice....I thought I had it figured out with the BFG All Terrains but I like these Cepek Radials as well.

I have some time to figure it out though...got quite a bit of tread left on my Procomp ATs....just want to have my ducks in a row when it's new tire time.

I'm picking up those Tundra calipers and rotors off a salvage yard for $125 out the door this week. I'm going to refurbish those and turn the rotors as well. Dunno what color I'm going to paint the calipers though!?!? Then it's either give or sell my tires to my little bro for cheap since he's needin some new tires anyway and get the ball rollin on these Procomp wheels and new tires OR wait till I need new tires and do it all then.

DECISIONS DECISIONS....

Thanks for your help though, this forum ROCKS!!!

Sorry Corey, just couldn't resist this picture. Are you really that short you need the step stool? LOL
Awesome looking FJ, and yes those wheels really do make a difference on your rig! Good to be back home!
