minor thread hijack

Steve,
What is the difference between MIG and TIG welding? My buddy offered to weld and can do both but he wants to use the gun (?)- really easy to weld with. Is this a strong enough weld for fabbing stuff up?

Back to the FJ, love the nice, neat welds and that nice "scoop out" for the tow hook, rounded edges...really nice work.
I really enjoy the process in photos on your website- the shock protector/washer is awesome!

Surprised no one else noticed...

Your cruiser looks like its smiling.

I guess it was happy with the results too. Seriously though, very inventive, clean, and good looking.

mig is probably the easiest type of welding to do. it's wire fed so all you really have to do is squeeze the trigger and go. tig welding is an ART. it's similar to gas welding, but far more versatile, and you can weld all kinds of hard to weld materials, such as titanium, aluminum, and stainless steel. usually if you need to get some tig work done, it will cost you.

i'm thinking about doing a tig certification after i get my stick certs, i'd love to be able to weld aluminum and chromoly

How much does the 'silver smile' weigh?
As for finish, I'd just clean it up and go with a clear metal lacquer. Some of the new finishes won't turn yellow in the sun.

She thinks they are fine, which is really good.

It's when they are not fine, that's when we have a problem.

I did not do the welding, Randy Ellis did. Wanted it to be perfect.

duh, I'm not thinking.
Awesome work. I was just looking back at the original bumper and it looks like a hamfisted, clunky brick compared to your new ones!
Really cool stuff, thanks for posting it.
