Search ebay, there's some that you hook up so they only flash when the key isn't in the on position. I had one of these for awhile.
Or you could do something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14934 Kinda ghetto, but it would work.

I've got a simple Viper Keyless entry system. It was about $140 installed. It has a bright blinking LED on the dash and an automatic ignition kill switch when the car is locked (no beeps).

The fake alarm won't do much.
I'm not going to go into detail because this is a public forum but trust me - a fake alarm will not stop anyone who has the slightest bit of experience breaking into vehicles. There is a simple tool that they use to check for vibration sensitive alarms. A real alarm may be a pain in the neck but the peace of mind you gain from it is well worth the hassle. As you said yourself, "why take the chance?"
