Question Factory Electric Locker

First off thanks to the folks who responded to my first post for good vs. bad of a full time locker.

The question I have know revolves around the Facotry Electric Locker. I've done all the research on the purchasing of the unit but I'm at a loss as to the installation. I've seen alot of web sites where the authors are installing them in everything but a third generation 4 runner. Is it as simple a changing out the thrid member? Or do I need to cut this piece out etc,.etc. So once again I'm asking for yopur help.

I learned something from Phongs writeup. He didn't have to pound on the back wall of the housing to make room for the new 3rd with locker. He did have to drill, and tap the same holes I did and cut in the same places I had to on my 4 cyl. 87 housing.

I used an angle grinder and grinding wheel and tried to shoot the stuff out with the wheel motion rather than have to clean it out later. A plasma cutting torch is ideal to save time but a $25 grinder does the same job.

To close the unused holes I took an unused stud and put it in the hole then cut it off flush with the grinder, then I put the other end cut off part in the other hole and ground it flush also. I used lots of black RTV sealant on both sides of the gasket just to be sure it wouldn't leak.

Good choice for a locker, enjoy!!

V6 housings are deeper. I didn't have to pound the back of the housing nor did I have to widen to ring gear slots on my '94 V6 rear diff.
