Exhaust Questions

I had dual magnaflow exhaust installed on my old '96 and loved the throaty sound, but hated the installation technique the guy at the muffler shop used. he brought the pipe over the differential on the passenger side and then split the exhaust and ran a pipe down at an angle to the driver side that was very visible, but he said it was the only way to run the dual exhaust because of the fuel lines on the drives side. Is this true? I am now looking into dual exhast for my '99 4wd and would like to have a clean install. Does anyone have any pics of their exhaust or even some sloppy diagrams you can draw up in paint. Any advise will help.

Thanks- Yusef

The only problem with duals that I've ever heard was the spare tire getting in the way, this was the same way on my 2nd gen. I think the way that most people are getting around this is to do a dummy pipe and only have the actual exhaust coming out of one of the tailpipes. Jason B. and a bunch of other people have done this and it looks and sounds great. I too will be doing this in a few weeks.

i have no info for you, but in a cold climate, won't it look kinda funny with condensation only coming out of one pipe?

When I first got my truck (3 months ago) and I spent a ton of time searching on the boards, I only found one "dual exhaust," the TRD one. I liked the look a lot but as I've done more research, I think I like the pipe to just exit the side as it does stock. I am actually upgrading my muffler to a Magnaflow fairly soon and will go with this route. I'm still thinking about a tip and which one I should get.

Good luck on your exhaust.

Hey ebelen1;

Sounds good, the Magnaflow mufflers work really well with 3.4L!!!
And Magnaflow has a huge selection of stainless tips!!
Good Luck

Not sure how the 4runners differ from the T100 in terms of fuel lines, but when I had my Flowmaster duals setup they ran the pipe around the spare under the bed and straight out the back, no problems.

Due to an excellent trail and some lousy driving on my part I bent the passenger side tip almost closed. Got out the sax and tacked some turn downs about 2 inches from the outlets on the muffler. Now it's louder inside the cab and a bit louder outside as well.

Hey 4in100;

Well I'm pretty sure there is way more room between the spare and alxe on the T100;
Cause on the 4Runners there's like about an 1" of clearance between the Pan-hard bar and the spare. Thats why its so tough to route the pipes!!!

Hey 20004r;

I easily changed the bulb socket from 1156 socket (single lead), to a 7443 socket (dual lead) hooked up the same two wires to the stock signal wires and ran the other (parking light) wire up to the corner lights!!
And if you want you could (switch it) to have them so you can turn them on and off! not only when the parking lights come on and off!!

If you want some pics of what i've done PM me anytime!!
Good luck!
