Event Data Recovery module?
Would like to know where the Event Data Recovery module (ie: EDR black box) is located in the 03-05 V-8 4Runner. This is the unit that records all actions of the vehicle. Recorded info is being used in Police and Insurance accident investigations without the concent or knowledge of some vehicle owners. Many states have no laws as to accessing this information. In some states a court order is needed if the vehicle is impounded but not if info is taken at the accident scene.
It is my understanding that California now requires that the EXACT location of the unit be supplied to the new vehicle purchaser in the Owners Operating Manual. Any any info as to where it is and what it looks like would be appreciated.
thanks,
Tom

They don't install those anymore in 4wd vehicles. The DOT researchers got all the data they needed already. In 90% of the crashes the drivers last words were "Hold my beer and watch this."
