differences in center "stack"? (radio, vents, fan switches area)
How deep do the differences between the '96-'98 4runner center stack and the '99-'02 center stack go? (A/C vents, AC controls, Radio, buttons...)
Obviously the vents are different, the bottom outlet area is different and the '96-'98 cupholder isn't there on the later models. What else is different behind the cosmetics?
Random question: How does the auto climate control work on the later 3rd gen 4runners? (sensor in some remote location? sensor in the unit? part of a computer somewhere?)

I've heard others bring up a swap and it was said to be too much work. I was wondering why, and what changes between the two made it that way.

I can't afford anything right now, but in the future I might play with some stuff like that.

BTW: if you need to see what the center console looks like, just check my Webshots page below under interior pics.

You may not realize it but the 96-97 "slider" controls are the easiest to use. They are the only controls you can adjust with ONE FINGER.

i like climate control and power seats and all the other amenities, but they are all things that break and leave you sol. i have had climate control and pwr seats fail. it sucks when the heat is always on super hot and cannot be changed. i'm stickin with simple ole slider controls that will most likely never fail.
