Deck Plate Mod ??

Hi all. This is my first post on this forum, but I've been following along with you folks for a few weeks now and I must saw that I'm very impressed with the level of knowledge and respectful demeanor of all the members here. Anyway, I'm about to do the deckplate mod and was wondering if anyone has done this with a 6" deckplate. Most the one's I've seen posted are with 4" plates. Is there anything wrong with using a 6"plate? With a bit of work it seems as if the bigger plate will fit, so I was just wondering if there was a downside to using this 6" plate - maybe clearance issues?? Any help at all would be much appreciated. Thanx.

Welcome bbeast!

I believe I read at one time that 6" would be too much cutting of the airbox and wouldn't seal properly, among other problems. I may have just been that day but it's what I vaguely remember.

I'm sure others will pipe in here for ya with more accurate info.

Anyhow, welcome again!

Well, I bought the 6" deckplate since the marine store I went to didn't have any more 4"ers. I guess I'll have to return it from your recommmendations and since I sized it up and it seems really tight. I checked Beckman's web-site and they make a 5" twistout deckplate (not screw-in) that could work, although if there is no air induction gain from going bigger then I don't really see the point. Is this the case or am I ?

I agree with Phil, I think I would return it and get a 4" just to be on the safe side. The 4" plate would be much easier to screw in also.
