Red face Deck Plate on 2000 2.7 4Runner?

I was intrested in doing the Deck Plate mod to my 3RZ 4Runner, but my air box is different from all the threads I've seen. I think I have a place on the side where I can put it, but it's got 1/4" deep ridges about and inch apart running down it, so it won'd be flat. Anyone done this to a truck like mine? Also, I'm running a non-OEM air filter, do you guys recommend a Toyota fiter?

If you can find one, Trueflow filters are the best aftermarket ones to get for your truck, as they have excellent filtering and good flow. As for the deckplate, we might need to see pics of your airbox first.

I have another nice Beckson deckplate for sale on my webpage if you need one. Ditto on seeing the airbox.

i haven't done the deck plate mod, so i cant speak to it directly.

i removed the air intake elbow (elbow mod, actually sawed off the elbow and kept the flange part that mates with the engine bay wall) from the fender wall in my Tacoma, and i can't see how the deck plate would do much more in terms of air flow gains. also, the elbow mod is free. the elbow mod, plus a good header (LCE is what i've got) makes the engine breathe plentiful. and there's no deck plate to worry about screwing in for water crossings or rainy weather etc.

regarding filter chargers, i also went back to paper air filters (Napa/Wix). the added air flow from my previous K&N (beyond just he elbow mod) was negligible, and i didn't care for the added maintenance of the MAF sensor and TB. its much easier to buy a couple paper filters and change them out when necessary. some folks worry about paper not filtering adequately- i recently had the head off my block, and with 115000 miles, the scoring on the cylinder walls was still visible. i'm not going to worry about air filtration after seeing that. on inspection, the MAF sensor and TB are never gummed up now.

regarding the header (and getting into thread jack territory) - most of the flow gains were found with just the header. i ran the header with stock cat back for a couple years, and later when i needed a new muffler i went with a full cat back (magnaflow hi-flo cat, 2 inch straight pipe to dynomax superturbo muffler, 2.25 mandrel tailpipe). the new cat back changed the sound (i call it a grumble, actually pretty nice sound, not ricey at all) but it did not do a lot for the flow beyond the header with stock cat back. i probably would do the cat back again just for the sound, but not if i was looking for performance gains.

these are my perceptions. good luck!

Thanks bktaco. I'll take a look at the elbow mod as soon as it stops raining (it's accually raining in California, shocker). Anyways, now I'm looking for shocks, because I have a real problem with shaking at higher speeds. I've done everything I could think of... new wheels, new tires, new balancing, alignment check and I still have the shaking. So, I push down on any corner of the truck and I get a lot of bob, maybe 4 dips up and down. What is the best shock for around $60/pr?

shaking might be bushings. but four bobs is no good either. spend more than $60/pair and thank your self for getting bilstein HDs http://store.summitracing.com/partde...sn-f4b462284h0 probably find them cheaper elsewhere.

for that kind of money people also like the adjustable ranchos.

I got a quote for $185 to replace the front struts with Rancho RSX ajustables. What about KYB?
