Dash seperating?
This has been going on for a while and while it doesn't seem to be horrible it is getting worse slowly. The dash cap looks to be separating from the frontal section that is connected to the fire wall. Can I tighten it back up to take the gap out or......
take a look and see what you think.

well that doesnt look too bad at all. I was curious to see what kind of solution that other people have done to fix the problem. so I searched Google and someone used this...

im sure any adhesive would do the job.

I've never actually liked those. The adhesive would work if the dash moved but it's like a tectonic plate, it moves away slowly over time and cannot to return to where it came. I though about some sort of trim in the shape of a T made of plastic. For the contractors, something like what you place between FRP panels but w/o the catch edges for the FRP leaving you with a T. Or say to hell with it and let it be.

My 4Runner had a tear just over the glove box and under the airbag. I thought of glueing a 4Runner emblem over it but found a dash at a JY. It was a PITA to remove it but once the entire dash was out you could see how to separate the padded top piece. There are multiple metal tabs that are just bent over holding the padded top to the plastic frame of the dash. Just straighten them and the padded part will separate from the rest of the dash.
It's tedious to say the least and you have a ton of wire looms connected to the dash, air ducts, etc. that you need to remember where they go. If you have the time and patience then go for it. I'm VERY happy I did it. I could have just bought the entire dash but $ was tight so I opted to just buy what I needed plus it was a good learning experience.
