Clutch Disk Replacement

Pulled the tranny last weekend and was surprised to see the difference in the clutch plates between the old and the supposed factory replacement that I had ordered. I am 99% certain the clutch I was pulling is factory. This is the listing of the clutch I bought to go in

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151046690367...84.m1497.l2649

Anyone have experience with these? From the digging I did it looks like the new one is for the 2.7L trucks in similar years. I don't wheel all the time but certainly I don't want to back down to a lesser pressure clutch plate/ pressure plate set up than what I have.

Both next to each other (note the beefier springs on the left one.)

Side view. Again, left one is very different shape.

I don't particularly feel like putting it all back together just to find out it doesn't work and I have to pull it all apart again. I checked with Napa and the only one they sell looks a lot like the older one, just a little different brand. Ideas?

Old clutch disc is OEM(AISIN) 31250-35350 Replaced by: 31250-35352-84

New clutch disc is OEM(AISIN) 31250-35400 Replaced by: 31250-35400-84

Old clutch disc is for 3.4L(5VZ-FE)

New clutch disc is for 2.7L(3RZ-FE)

They sent you the wrong clutch disc for sure. I would assume the pressure plate is the wrong one as well. But I can't prove that without further evidence/investigation.

I just called the dealer that I got it from and they said they don't even carry the one for the 2.7L engine and said that the one I have is for sure the one for my truck. MudHippy I see where you got the first link (based on the 35350 part number on the old clutch) but how are you determining that the second link is indeed the same one? I really appreciate the help, I'm just trying to eliminate variables here.

CKT-040, for the 5VZ-FE, contains clutch disc DTX-136.

CKT-051, for the 3RZ-FE, contains clutch disc DTX-137(or DTX-137L).
http://aisin.mycarparts.net/products..._id=1944750128

See the images provided for both kits to verify.

The following catalogue also lists DTX-137 as being for the 3RZ-FE and the 3VZ-E(in 4Runner applications)

I've previously dealt with Gripforce, and have given them a poor review. They failed to meet my expectations for OEM parts. Meaning, what they call an OEM product, and what the actual OEM product is, are 2 different things. Every time. They're idiots. Plain and simple.

Jeez... well glad I asked. I really appreciate the help. Napa sells a replacement clutch kit for around 350. Its pretty steep but I really need my truck back together this weekend. Any idea if those are any good or if I should stick with Aisin stuff?

have you checked your local toyota dealer? Aisin oem stuff i've seen go close to 100k before needing replacement again. Might be worth asking dealer if at least your pressure plate is correct. They should be able to sell the clutch disk for about 100 if i recall correctly.

Problem is I'm in Wyoming and the closest dealer is an hour drive away down in Colorado as far as I know. I'll do some digging around in the morning though and see what I come up with. You're right about the clutches. Mine has 130k on it and it's still going strong. I'm just changing it now while the transmission is out

Went ahead and ordered another kit off ebay (private seller this time who actually listed model numbers not just what vehicle it fits (supposedly.) Puts me out another two weeks before I can get the works back together which means another two weeks of rolling around on the motorcycle. You should've seen the look the guys at Napa gave me when I rolled up on my Suzuki and pulled a forty pound fly wheel out of my backpack...

I looked into Napa/ Luk clutches but wasn't very impressed by what I was hearing. The dealer wanted around 600 bucks for the whole works and I need to buy all of it if I'm gunna try to return the kit to grip force. It is a different model number on the pressure plate by the way

Did you see Amazon has the Aisin CKT-040 for $198(Prime-eligible)? I'm starting to feel a little slip and I think this is how I am going to go.

Jeez I didn't see that. Really wish I had gone that way now. The ebay listing had said it would deliver by tomorrow but when I got shipment info from USPS it expects delivery on Monday. I've got Army stuff end of next week and weekend and probably a search and rescue training deal the weekend after all of which keeps pushing this project back further.

The new style factory discs suck(plastic spring retainers- clunky and noisy). I went with marlin crawler clutch kit. Aisin brand disc just like the old factory ones

How do you like it? Is it harder on the foot? (My knee hurts getting through the Lincoln Tunnel.)

I love it! Pedal is nice and soft. Probably as soft as stock. And it grips well. I do a lot of towing and I have a S/C.
