Chirping noise
My 4Runner makes a strange noise that seems to be coming from the drivetrain. It is a chirping sound, sort of like a cricket. It only occurs when decelerating. Giving it a little gas makes the sound go away. It seems to go away below 25mph. It is not brake related. It is there whether or not the brake is applied. It is most noticable when coasting down a hill at 30-50 mph. Coasting in neutral does not change the sound either. Does anyone have an idea about what this could be?
The truck is a 99 4Runner, Highlander, V6 automatic. Thanks.

Chirping Noise!
I had the EXACT SAME problem on my 1999 Toyota PreRunner TRD OffRoad AUTO, V6. Kept taking it back to the dealer. Never would nake that noise when I took it in. I finally drove around with a tape recorder. and FINALLY go it on tape... Well, THEN it would make the noise with the toyota tech's in the truck.
Anyway.. the culprit was a dry rear diff yolk. It was not the U-Bolts. The rear diff's front yolk did not have enough grease or something. They removed that, lubed it up and it has been silent ever since!
Hope this helps!
