Yeup, I saw that... I just woke up a bit ago.

I did wander yesterday and found a couple of things at the local Fred Meyer and Target, but nothing that really floated my boat. I'll be out and about in another part of Seattle today but I don't hold out a lot of hope to find these locally.

I'd suggest a "group buy" of sorts to make the most out of JCW's S&H fees, but the items would still end up having to be re-shipped from "thermometer central" to each person, so that'd be another $1.50 or so. I figure we'd have to get 10ish people to want something from JCW in order to make it worthwhile.

What do folks think?

I know that I would be in for it, but I don't know if there is enough demand from anyone else on here (besides you and I).

Hi Cody;

Well.. my wanderings today turned up nothing local. sigh.

We could just buy two, split the base cost and then the non-front man ends up paying for shipping to him. That'd end up being $49.85 to the front man, $24.93 each, then re-shipping via USPS would be either $2.25 or $3.85 each (depending if it will weight in under a pound). That's still (a hair) cheaper than $29.85 (19.95 + 9.95).

Buying 10 would reduce the piece count to 21.00... sigh.

Lemme know if you're interested in a Big Group Purchase of two.

WhooHoo! There be more folks!

What Cody and I are talking about doing is trying to spread out the JCW shipping charge... $10 on a $20 or $15 item is a bit much. So technically, ordering _anything_ from the JCW site can help spread that out. But, to make it worthwhile, the item would have to be light so as to not get hit with a large additional charge based on weight when it comes from the front-man to the real purchaser. Anyway, this is the thermometer selection from JCW:

Ideally, and to stay on topic, we're talking about picking anything from that selection.

JCW rips you off on shipping. I ordered an item from them. They sent it US mail and charged me $12. It took 8 days to get here. I returned the POS item and it cost me $3.80 to ship it back to them in the same styrofoam envelope then sent it to me in!

Awesome...a few people are better than none!

This is the
one that I plan on picking up. I'm not sure if I have enough money to be able to fund the entire group buy, but I can get it all organized with what people want and all that. Is there anyone who doesn't mind paying the big bill, and then having the other guys pay them for the individual orders? Please PM me or email me with questions or whatever. Hopefully we can make this work!

Cody

Yeup, which is why we're trying to do something like this.

And, just to be somewhat fair, JCW aren't the only folks making up for their loss leaders with high "shipping" charges.

I can float it Cody, but it'd be nice to get the return cash within a credit card billing cycle to avoid the interest.

It looks like we may be up to four, so let's let this sit for a bit more and see what happens. Maybe you should start another thread with a clearer topic to state what's going on and point folks here?

EDIT: Scrap that... I'll start a new post since I'm sitting right here.

Mark,

I hope I'm on the correct thread here. Count me in on the group buy. This will be a cheaper mod than the $200 rear view mirror in the PP catalog that I want so bad. Let me know when you need some money and when I have to pick one out by. Thanks for doing this.

Hey Funrunner,

Check out this thread.

I would email or private message Mark, and he will let you know the details. Keep 'em coming - the more people we have, the cheaper they will be! Thanks again Mark-
