check engine light + engine miss
pretty much the title says it all.. my moms 97 4runner just had the check engine light come on and it sounds like theres a engine miss. i told my dad to have autozone pull the codes to narrow it down to what it could be... he said hed go tomorrow.. anyone have any ideas what it could be? i know its kind of vague but figured id ask cause maybe one of you have had this problem.
thanks,
kelly

Well, if it sounds like a miss and there is a MIL on, then chances are you got a miss. If a cylinder does not fire, it can set a lean(because of the o2 not burning) code. The usual spark plug/wire ect. should be checked out if the code and miss are verified.

Kelly,
About a month ago, i installed new spark plugs and wires. After installing, I had a random "skip"...it was as if the engine was missing here and there. Since I have a stick, I could feel the "pulse" in the shifter.
Turns out the problem was with one of the brand new spark plugs. One of the electrodes was closer than the other. I replaced it w/ the old plug until I could buy a new, replacement plug. Runs like a champ now.
If you've recently replaced all your plugs, I would suggest you take a look at each and every one again.
If that isn't it, I believe ol' Mertztr had a problem with this light that required him to replace his O2 sensor. A DIY job.
