CEL after pusing RR DIFF LOCK
I accidently pushed the RR DIFF LOCK button while in 2H. Did this cause the CEL/TRAC OFF/VSC lights to come on?
Advice?

That is true, you can only turn on the Diff Lock in 4L. That is why I was wondering if I threw the CEL bumping that button and then noticed my CEL was on.

Such insight.
Based on lack of vehicle info I assume 01-02 4Runner?
If this is the case and you have TRAC and VSC then you should not have the rear locker, unless you installed one?
Are you sure the switch says RR DIFF LOCK

Sorry, I assumed that only the 02' has the Trac Control. It is an 02' SR5 Sport. No, assumed that the RR Diff Lock button is the same as the button with the 4 wheels and the "X" in the middle. Is it not the same?? Please enlighten if it isn't. It is the factory setup. I didn't mod the runner.

So, the real question is: Without the mod, I pushed the 4 wheel button with the x in it in 2HI and the CEL came on. Is that the culprit for the CEL?

You can try and clear them by removing the -ve battery terminal for a bit, and you will see if the code reappears. But you should go and get the code READ, before you potentially mess something up.
I am not fully familiar with the sequence of 4wd motion for the 01-02. Im pretty sure that the floor shifter controls the L4, N, and H2? Then you have the awd button and the centre diff lock button.
Question is, do you know how to work you 4wd system?
Im sure someone with an 01-02 will chime in.

I found threads about resetting the CEL in the 2nd Gen by unplugging the fuse to the EMU. That was OBI I though.
What about OBD II?
I have read about the 4WD system in the manual. I accidentally bumped the button in 2H. So, I know now that the vehicle without the mod needs to be in 4L before the diff lock will engage. But I knew previous to that that it at least had to be in 4WD. Thanks for your help Godzilla.

Regarding the centre lock button I wasnt sure if there was a sequence to it which you may have "upset" by accidentaly hitting it. Though it seems odd that the centre lock is only used in 4L. The center diff lock will just put you into true 4wd hi.
I think you are getting the "grey-wire" mod and "andy mod" confused.

Is the Diff lock mod also called the Andy Mod?
I think I am getting confused with the "grey-wire" mod and the blue/red wire mod after reading about it.

I could tell you were getting a little mixed up so first you need to distinguish what deals with your vehicle. It seems like you are doing some reading, just getting a little confused in all the terms.
The RR Diff Lock mod also known as the grey wire mod and variations depending on the year only is suitable for 96-00. So this is not you. You would only be interested in the Andy mod and any variations of it.
