Corey,

Your ability to find things on the Internet never ceases to amaze me!

If I had a Tacoma, I would seriously consider that one. Looks like a clean fit and I like how the winch compartment is designed. If you don't have (or don't want) a winch, you can't tell that there's a mounting point with the cover on.

Matt

It was easy finding it.
He is a member over on ODW, and I saw the post.

He can make these to fit a variety of rigs, not just Tacomas.
I think I saw that he might tackle a 4th gen also.

But I do keep my eyes peeled for stuff like this.
You should see my bookmarks on my PC.
They'd probably stretch from my home to yours

Hi Zedex, the crowds here are always looking for new products out there in cyberspace.

I know a few with the '03 rigs have enquired about bumpers already.

yea.. I was just down at the lot lookin at some 03's. Thats one serious chunk of plastic on the front. I am itching to build a bumper for one but i need some incentive. If no one wants one then i wont build one. If i owned an 03 then it would be done already.

Zedex,

Welcome to the forum!

What have you done for the 2nd Gen. rear bumper? There are a few ideas floating around here like...http://www.trailseeker.com/4x4/mods/4runner/index.htm or
http://www.home.earthlink.net/~thefo...earbumper.html

Can you give us a ballpark price to make something like these bumpers?

Again, welcome and look forward to hearing your ideas, etc.

Scott

If someone seriously wants one, i will build a really nice one for $700 US. That would be a winch bumper similar to mine but. The stock turn signals would be incorporated in the design. I already have a design in mind for the 4runner.
My Tacoma bumper uses the stock turn signals as well so you dont have to mess with cutting wires and wiring in other lights. Bumper will bolt in with 0 mods. Just bolt it on and replug in your lights.
I will also wire the bumper for aux lights. Wiring would be loomed inside the bumper.
Im just curious. Does $700 sound reasonable. Or am i out of touch?

Hi 92. I havent done any rear bumpers. That bumper in your picture looks like a formed design. I cant do formed steel. Unless i start workin out big time. All my stuff i bend by hand.
I could mind you come up with a lower profile design. Its very difficult though if you dont have a vehicle sitting in front of you.
The skies the limit really. How much metal do you want.
It think if i were to build a rear for the vehicle in your picture. I would trim some sheet metal and make the bumper sleeker so it would have greater clearance. But still jackable.

Welcome aboard Zedex. Nice fabbing skills. I see you do furniture also. I'm a furniture nut, but mostly wood. I can do metal brackets, but I don't have the equipment for much else. I have a buddy who's got all the toys though...

Speakin' of wood...

There is a large untapped market for custom cargo boxes for the back of SUVs.

Mine is made out of solid red oak.

If someone could make a template and then custom build them, there would be a big market for them.

They could be made out of a cheaper wood than what mine is to put the cost factor down.
But I think they would sell.

Hey zedex,

Nice bumper. In my opinion, if the bumper you are building has a concealed winch area and beefy bars up top like the TJM-15, $700 USD is a good deal. If it's just like the one shown w/no beefy bars and the winch wide open, I think $700 is way too much.

Are the bumpers you're building compatible w/airbags? And how much do they weigh in at?

Al

Hi Hboss. They all have an enclosed winch area. I could build some bars that bolt on. But i though....naaaaaa....Im not biffin kangaroos off the road...If the demand is there though. I will build some.
As for the airbag thing. If you get in an accident its going to crush. Of course i have never tested it and im never going to i hope.
I talked to toyota about the airbags. They said there are several criteria that have to be set for the airbags to go off. I saw no crush sensors on the front of my truck. I think its a deceleration sensor that will trigger the airbags.
And the bumper uses all stock bumper mounts. So those babies will shear if your in an accident.

You bring up an interesting topic though. ARB has a write up on their bumpers being airbag compatible. But does that include if you have a winch bolted in the bumper. A winch is a heavy chunk of mass. Will the airbags deploy when the winch is acting as yet another bumper.
I dunno.

Weight??? I really dont know. I would say 60...70 lbs?
Next one i build i will weigh it.

Im thinkin $600 US. That might be better. The tacoma bumper im thinking 600. The forerunner would probably be more like $650. I havent built one yet but i know it would be more steel. And its alot more complicated.

I only mention it to you in relation to your pricing, because you asked if $700 seems fair or out of touch. Generally, ARB w/bull bars go for about $650 and TJM w/bull bars go for between $700-$720.

The bumpers w/o bull bars up top (TJM-17 for instance) are only about $440, which is why I said $700 would be considered way too much.

Just hoping to help out a fellah canuck.

Either way, they are nice bumpers you're makin'!
