burning oil

on a 22re with 208,000 on it, is it normal to be burning 1/2 quart of oil every 3-4 tanks or so of fuel, if not what could this mean?

any number of things...most likely, engine top end rebuild time...w/ 208K on it, might be time to do the whole thing...just did mine 5K ago and it runs like a new truck...worth every penny

This thread should be in maintenance & repairs section.

I get about 200 miles to a tank, so assuming you get similar mileage, you burn about a half quart in 800 miles. I've seen a lot worse than that, so if you don't want to invest any cash in it right now, drive it as is. Run straight 30W or heavier, keep it topped off and drive it til it starts spewing smoke.

To give you some perspective, the old Chevy I drove for 6 years through college burned one quart of oil every 200 miles, regular as clockwork. Don't worry about it. The worst that's likely to happen is that you'll eventually fail an emissions check. If this isn't an issue for you, just be sure to keep the oil filled.

Good luck.
