Bumper Question

Hey guys. I just got a bumper like this:

And I'm gonna try and fit it on my 98 runner. Its not one for a jeep, I think it was made for the old 79-83 toyota pickups(At least thats what they guy that sold it to me said.), thats just a picture of what it kinda looks like.

It was $40 so I'm gonna see if I can make it work.

Would it be safe to attach it to the lower frame bars instead of the standard bumper mounts? That seems the easiest way to do it, as I'd only need to make a spacer.

assuming similar to the '99.... it should be fine to attach to either...

for that bumper, not sure how it mounts, but the bumper itself is not strong enough to have to worry about mounting it super good to be able to yank on it

if you mount under, there are two 12mm bolts on each side that are plenty strong, just dont lose your factory tow points up there if you use the same bolts

Well what would be a good product to use a spacer. I don't have any intense tools to use. My friend has a welder, but I'd like to hear suggestions from you gurus.

to the bottom section??? if attaching to bottom of rails, depending on span... For 1-2 inches you can use a piece of square tube (1/8 or 3/16 or whatever you find for wall thickness) and longer bolts (12mm fine thread). You could use a piece of C-channel on its side for 3+ inches, and use the stock bolts to hold it to frame, and more bolts to hold channel to bumper... either way would be fairly simple with just a few holes

spacing down like that would not be good for the tow points if they are lowered as well, greater chance of breaking/bending them if/when used...

mounting to front of frame plates would be better IMO because the bumper would be better supported in impact and would "smush" more than bend inwards, i guess either way you don't really want to think about that happening front plates would also maintain stock tow points

Don't be a tool, you asked for the gurus advice & you got it. He's no dummy...he may be wrong & he might not but there it is.

Well see. I apologize for my rudeness, I was just in a bad mood. Hopefully I can get it to fit though.

Anyway, I got my spacers made today, and now all I need to do is mount it.

I'll get some pics when I'm done, hopefully it looks good.

So far I've spent $40 on the bumper, $15 on the spacers (1/4" thick square steel tube), and $5 on nuts and bolts.

Total: $60 so far. Hopefully it looks good!

Cool, looking forward to pics... Many on this thread (myself included (sorry)) do not think it will look the best, but I still hope that you can get what you want on your truck. I hope the spacers work out for ya, and everything lines up. If this works out and looks good, you're starting something new that I am sure a few people would take interest in.

Your attempting something different, and thats all that matters. I don't really have an opinion on it yet, i'll have to wait and see it on the truck. It could go either way, but at least it won't be a huge loss if it sucks.

I looked up the brand and it apparently is made for a jeep

So if worse comes to worse I can just sell it on ebay to recoup my losses. haha

Its on!

It looks pretty good, definitely unique.

I was putting on some running lights and one of them broke, so it looks kind of silly with only 1 light, but I'll upload some pics tomorrow when its 100% done.
