breathers

I need to replace the clutch in my truck, and thought I would extend the breathers on the tranny and transfer case while I had everything out. Anyone know what the thread size is on the breathers? I'd rather pick up plumbing fittings and do it myself than order the Toyota parts that are mentioned in the Tech section. Are they the same thread size as the axle breathers? Thanks in advance for saving me some searching.

Do you run your truck under water to the point that it comes in the cab about ankle deep? If not there is no reason to do this. The breathers are at the top of the tranny and the transfer, at least they are on my truck. What tranny do you have?

I have a 5 speed and yes, the water has been ankle deep in the cab. I guess it was stupid of me to open the door to check the depth.

I haven't seen the tranny/xfer breathers except by looking at them under the truck with a mirror. They appear to be the same as the diff breathers. If so, the threads are metric. 1/8" fittings can be forced in, but you risk damaging the threads, especially if the tranny/xfer cases are aluminum. For the rear diiff, forcing brass into steel is no problem, but for something like a tranny I'd be worried about getting any shavings inside.
