Black Powder !!!!!!!!!
Hi guys,
Just a quick question thats worrying me. Today i was sat in my surf sorting out my heater and i had the car idling. All was ok and i didnt hear anything, but when i got out and walked behind the surf to go in my garage i noticed a big line of black dust that had sprayed out from the exhaust. I touched it and it was dry, except a few spots that were a "little" oily. Is this a problem ? i have never noticed it before and i didnt notice it after. I reved it a few times to see if anything else came out but nothin did.
Matt
(P.S My surf is a 2.4 Turbo Diesel if this helps at all )

That black powder is unburnt diesel.
Something that most people on this forum wouldn;y know about as they run petrol engines.
I wouldn't worry too much, most diesel engines will "soot up" when idling, check your air filter isn't too dirty.
If your engine is black smoking badly when driving under load (going up hill or towing) then the injectors could need servicing.
hope this helps.

I've got some pics of my engine bay on my computer at work.
I'll update my website with them tommorrow morning
MY SITE
Its a bit dirty because they were taken after a days offroading
I'll also try and post some cleaner pics later on in the day.
Regards

You'll be suprised with some decent A/T tyres on you can allmost anywhere.
The only problem you get with the 4Runner is its length it tends to ground out a bit
