I have been looking into getting a set of Downey springs but cannot find the model number of the Bilstiens I will need. I know UKMyers has some. I am assuming that I need longer shocks than stock.

Nah you don't need longer shocks to go with the coils. I'm running stock length Bilsteins with my Downey HD Coils and haven't had any problems, and I know that the majority of the people here who are running similar setups don't have longer shocks in the back.

Sorry I don't have the P/N's on hand for the Bilsteins, but they're just the OEM replacement for a '90-'95 4Runner 4x4.

You definitely won't regret the coils and the Bilsteins

It depends on what you want to do. If you want better articulation then you want longer shocks. The shocks are what are limiting you. If you don't take it off road much, then stock length is fine.

Keep in mind if you do want longer shocks then you have to figure out which ones will fit. This means that the longer shocks you use will most likely not be designed for the 4runner.

Yes I do want more articulation. I kinda thought that I would need to get longer shocks. Anyone know how to go about getting the proper fit? Does anyone have longer Bils?

If you just run the Downey HD coils like many of us do, stock length is fine.

I have had my truck pretty articulated on a few trails and the Edelbrocks which I run are stock lengh and never over extend.

Now if you put the 1.5" biscuit in to raise your coils up another 1.5", then yes, you would need a longer ap.

FWIW, talk to the guys at NWOR. They have a chart in their catalog listing various length shocks for lifted applications. They're the only ones I know who have this already figured out. There's too many part #'s for me to list here.

However, I can say that they do not have a listing for the Bilsteins for your truck, other than the stock length, until you get to around 4" of lift in the rear. In case you did not know, the OEM Application Bilstein shocks have at least 2" more travel than the factory Tokico's.

So, if you're not lifting past 2.5" in the rear, you'll be fine. If you want other brands of springs such as Rancho or KYB, they have listings for those shocks in Stock, 2", and 3-4" lifted applications.

I have the stock length Bils with PP springs too. No problems with articulation (maybe I'm not trying hard enough...)
