With a little bit of trimming you can completely clear 35's with ZERO lift.
You said if you had the money or the time... Well the money is about $10 and the time is a day in the driveway and you can clear 35's.
We are running about ~4" of "lift" just because that happens to be the right amount so that the truck feels balanced between extension and compression travel. A lower center of gravity is better for wheeling period, big lifts are for looks and that's cool but don't make excuses about clearing tires or not skidding on skid-plates or whatever. Just admit that you like the look of a big old truck and that's it. You can't defend the undefendable. I'm not trying to bag on you but you have your facts bass-ackwards.

So do they still clear under full compression at full lock both ways?

I dont trust that. If that was a SAS I can see the fender just tearing off and going flying down the trail. With IFS it woudnt be as bad. Less articulation, but still somthing I would never attempt

I've got a 91 with 15X39.5X15s on it with SAS & 529 gears. Its killing the auto trans and the 3.0 is slow but I can still get down I-10 @ 70mph. See if this works. photobucket.com/albums/y86/hienuf

Price from when I talked to my installer would be about $1800 for the front kit (fabtech) and about $600 for the rear install (downey/ OME spring, spacer, and pan hard). Labor on the kit would be about $700.
Its true that in some cases IFS has more flex, if you disconnect the sway bars. Other wise the flew is very limited. As for the fener trim truck, I would worry that if the wheels were locked in a turn, and the suspension traveled up, the tire would contact the body.
