Best place to mount oil filter w/ relocation kit?

Best place to mount oil filter w/ relocation kit?
My question pertains to 3rd Gen vehicles:
I just had my OE skid plates powder coated Silver Chrome:rolleyes: and I don't want the mess I get when I have to drop the filter ... and I sure as heck don't want to drop the skid plates every time I change the oil filter. So-o-o, I was reading everything that pertains to the remote filter kit the PP
sells ... Isn't there another place to get this part?
I want to know, given what Gadget said about not locating the filter higher than the OE location on the block, where is the preferred spot to mount this thing so that I can access it with ease and keep my shiney side shiney?
ALSO, just out of curiosity and since I have never needed one of these things before, is there any chance that the remote filter can cause momentary starvation to the engine?

Couldnt you use a funnel with a tube on it for oil changes?
You could put the funnel under the oil filter, and any excess oil would flow into it. Just an idea. As for your other questions, I dont know, sorry.

That is a good suggestion and I will have to look at the area more closely and see if that would work. There has to be enough room for the funnel to fit, etc.
Another reason why I favor the remote kit is that I don't intend to change the oil/filter all the time and as has been said before, a garage or anyone else will take the easy way and not unbolt the skid plate. I also know if they did unbolt it they would just thow it on the floor and scratch it all up. :cry:

I have my Amsoil dual remote mounted under the drivers side on the frame. It is the best place i have found to mount it. I will post some pics as soon as i get a new digital camera.

I had one like Bill's from NWOR mounted on the passenger side same place on my '90 truck I had before the 4Runner.
It leaked all the time where the filters screwed in at the top.
I had the duelie model and ran tow big Ford Purolator filter on it.
I was able to put about 7 qts or so into my 22RE to help keep it cool.
I finally ended up taking it off and going back to stock on it.

The plates are not installed yet. I am playing with a Sport skid plate that I bought from Darren. I want to straighten that thing out, clean it up and see how it looks on before I install the powdercoated plates. This project is sure to wait until I can see green grass and dirt again. The Silver Chrome coating is almost a direct match to the Millennium Silver body color, just a little more chrome looking.

That is what got me hooked on 4wheeling several years ago after reading their catalogs when I first got my old '90 truck.
Some folk's have had bad luck with them, while others have had good luck.
Dr. Z on the board here recently bought their springs F&R for his 4Runner, and he likes them a lot, and had good customer service with them.
You have to get a hold of the right people there.

2) The filter kit is not proprietory and as long as a filter has a 3/4x16 pitch thread, the filter will fit. Matterafact, according to Amsoil, the OE Toyota filter has that pitch and will fit.
3) The filter does not have to be mounted at the same level as the OE filter on the block because the filter and the engine, at the filter nipple, have anti-drain back valves mechanisims. HOWEVER, the filter has to be mounted as close to vertical as possible.
4) The kit comes with numerous adapters that allow for easy installation and choice in size filter you select. The kit also comes with 8 feet of hose.
5) How much is the kit? Oops! Well, if I had to ask then I couldn't afford it.

Actually I've never worried about it, I'm not the paranoid type, I live in a good neighborhood, I wrok on a military base, and basically if someone's gonna screw with ya then they're gonna screw with ya, one way or another, meanwhile while y'all are struggling with the skid plates, I'm done and drinking beer
