Auto Transmission COOLER??
Where is a good place to mount one in a 95' runner with the 3.0? Also is it posible to over cool your tranny? because the cooler i got says that it is for use on vehicles that weigh 12,000 to 16,000 lbs.

I'm gonna be doing the same thing that Robinhood and countless others have done and just mount it up underneath the skidplate..I'm going with the Hayden also.

I'm doing this tomorrow but I am not sure where the second (inlet) hose is so I can connect it to the cooler.
The first hose I know is coming out of the bottom of the radiator.
STEVE, do you remember what part number was the cooler you picked up?

No, I didn't even look at the part number. I just went into kragen and looked for a stacked plate hayden cooler that looked like it would fit. I think it was the smallest they had, maybe 12"x8"?

This conversation comes up a lot on the forum... I wonder what folks would find in a SEARCH?
Here's a start...
The short form is that the Hayden 1678 is the same as the TRD cooler. The best price that's been found is $43.79 from bulkpart.com:

Congratulations on the search, but this has not been beaten for the 2nd Gen rides.
There is not room to mount it where most 3rd Gen people do and I am really not sold on putting it where Steve has his, especially considering my bellypan likely has very poor flow characteristics.
I have heated mine up a couple times driving with two feet, but I cannot find a good place to stick a cooler.

Indeed.
HAYDEN 1678.
I'm still at lost where to mount it.
WASKILLY's write up is only for 3RD GEN, I'm assuming. Haven't take the time to read it all, to be honest.

From what I have been able to find out it is VERY hard to over cool ATF. I have Hayden's 30k cooler installed. I switch to synthetic ATF about the same time. Maybe transdude will weigh in on this topic!

The flat bar I just got from the hardware store. They sell small pieces like 3' long.
I did hear of one guy with a 2nd gen who mounted his in front of the radiator but I never did see pics.
Anyway, I figure anything is better than nothing. During the deathvalley trip I did manage to light up my tranny light but I was in 4hi, in deep gravel and going relatively slow (<20mph). But at normal road speeds it has never come on after the cooler install.
The best setup would be a thicker, custom skid plate to provide more protection but also more air flow.
