Transmission cooler?

this may have been covered (this is almost a typical response now!) but I can't find anything.

A while back a saw somebody doing a transmission cooler for their 3rd gen tranny. I was curious if anybody knew where I could read about it/ get a write up for it.

Also, what are your opinions on this? is it needed, recommended, waste of time...?

Use the flashing green button of knowledge at the top of the screen. There are numerous write-ups on tranny coolers for the 3rd Gen 4Runners.

I've got the TRD cooler on my 96. Complete writeup and pics on my website (see my sig for link to my site).

Absolutely recommended if you do any slow-speed off roading. Crawling around through rocks, up grades, etc. will cause a good amount of strain on the tranny and limit the airflow through the radiator (which has an inner chamber for the tranny fluid as well).

The Hayden 1678 _is_ the cooler that Toyota sells under the TRD badge. Bulkpart.com sells them for $43.79 which is about 1/3 the cost of the TRD branded version:

I didn't need anything extra outside of what was included in the kit. It installed in under an hour.

Good luck!

The search isn't working right now, see the sticky at the top.
