ARB/TJM Bumper Owners and Surco/Confer Roof Rack owners - Dimensions needed...

I'd like to know the dimension of the grille guard tubing used on the ARB/TJM.

I'd also like the tubing size used on the roof racks mentioned. Are these racks steel or aluminum?

I'm planning my tubing bender acquisition and want to get the right dies, etc. Some good reading over on Pirate if anyone is going down this road - especially if you are considering hydro.

Thanks all.

Even us old farts could learn to use the search better...

That's just what I need for the TJM. How do you all feel about the proportions of that bar (tubing guard vs. bumper vs. Runner/Truck) I don't want to make anything that doesn't have good proportions. For example, the Trailready bumpers for JGC's use 2" tubing for the guard. Too big IMO. My goal is to give ample protection, better clearance than most bumpers I've seen (that aren't all tubing like All Pro/Badlands), a maintenance free finish (bash it and it's no worse for wear), and great aesthetics (I want them to look like they "belong"). Obviously I'll be starting with the 2nd Gen since I have one.

If people like my ideas, great - I'd love to build a business. If not, well then I'll remain a hobby fabricator and have fun with it.

Steve - after the prototypes are done and on my rig, I'll be able to gear up. Everyone might think I'm out of my mind when they see what I have cooked up. I'd love to have something together by Easter, but need to fork out for a winch at some point so I can do the final design on the front bumper - maybe front bumpers will be last on the list.

I have a cool idea for the roof rack too. A nice low profile approach (I need to use parking garages all the time in PIttsburgh, so I can't go to tall since the rig is still a DD)

Not sure what order everything will come together, but everything is conceptually done. No, you can't see any of the designs yet.

Mike,

I have a Warn M8000 sitting in my basement waiting for the day that I buy an ARB front bumper to mount it (or possible a nice custom front bumper made by someone local... hint, hint) anyway, if you need some of the winch dimensions or want to borrow it for a while let me know.

Bill

I am gonna take you up on that. The mounting for that one and the larger ones is the same, just more motor hanging off one side. That's a great offer Bill! Thanks alot!!

It will be a little while until I can get everything pulled together. I'm pumped!!

ahhhh man.......

I cant believe I'm going to do this, but here it is. Cebby, I'll let you make a custom bumper w/ winch for my Taco. Something tasteful now...... I am getting older.

Seriously, best of luck w/ this. I hope in 1 year you're so swamped, you need to hire help.

Dimensions measured in below zero temps!

ARB Tacoma Bull Bar round tubing: 2"

Garvin Wilderness Roof Rack Square tubing: 3/4"

I think Conferr and Garvin use the same tubing dimension. Both are steel racks.

Have fun with your bender!

Mike,

In case you missed my reply on the stereo sub/amp topic that I started....I have a 16 ton hydraulic tubing bender in my office that we very rarely use. If I can find all the parts you can probably borrow it if you haven't already purchased one. I know it will bend up to 2" schedule 40 steel pipe.
