Just an FYI for those interested in this mod:

installed a Warn front mount hitch receiver on my Hilux Surf last weekend. It's a direct bolt on (snug-fit) but there's a need to drill two holes (1 per side) on the rail. There's also a need to reinstall the tow hook on the right side or you can have a thick washer fabricated instead. The Warn kit came with bolts, nuts, and washers.

With a fat-lip bumper, the receiver is so far away from the valence and I think there might be enough space for a winch in there...

on the downside, there's a need to relocate the TRD ATF aux. cooler because the hitch will hit the lower mounts of the cooler. A fab shop can easily make new mounts for the cooler, locating it an inch or so higher than the TRD position.

HTH.

UPDATE: The winch I bought (el cheapo - Champion Power Equipment 8000lb.) at Costco a couple years back came with a mounting plate designed for Hummer bumper and/or the bed of a pickup truck. This was the reason
I went with an aftermarket winch mounting plate designed for Class III receivers. At the same time I bought a handle kit that mounts to the receiver mounting plate for carrying the whole thing around ie. winching from front or back or removing for storage when not in use (over 100lbs. I might add)
(Step_06.jpg pictured above)

I was in Costco the other day (Richmond Hill, ON) and guess what...now you can buy a kit that includes the winch, mounting plate, handles AND a power disconnect!
What the (bleep)!! [can't remember price but I think it was $400 or $500...I think it's a 9000lb winch now as well]

My setup works good but if you're interested in a decent (affordable) winch system that is modular (winch from a Class III receiver - front/rear of vehicle)
You can't beat the price. If you're an occasional winch user, just install the receivers (and 2 or 4 AWG wires) and you're good to go.

BTW - I've done lots of winching with my setup (pulling down 50-70ft. Oak trees at the cottage), retrieval of my buggy stuck in mud (uphill) etc. still works like new. If you're more of a off-roadin' hobbyist, I'd go with the WARN system. You can tell the difference in quality with the more expensive winches.
