**** 99' 4-runner not running so well HELP!! ****
New to the board and tried to search but I have some specific questions. I have a 99 Limited 4x4 V6 that has the check engine light illuminated. I had it diagnosed and recently replaced the Throttle Position Sensor as advised. I was driving the past few days and while rapidly accelerating, a misfire was painfully obvious. I took it in and they diagnosed it as "Cylinder Misfire" and recommended new plugs/wires/boot....The price was 592 bucks to do this work and I about died!! First off, how much should I expect to pay to have this done (Parts/Labor) and is it something I could handle myself or should I leave it to the crooks at the local garage? This price sounds way high being that parts are 133.44 for plugs/87.91 for tailor res wires/182.07 for spark plug conn. boot....Please help!! I would really like to do it myself but don't really know where to start!! Another garage (Goodyear) quoted me 292.00 to do the work and they use a plug other than NGK. I found this link and it doesn't seem to hard of a job. Any advice on brands of parts to use and where to get them?

Thanks in advance!!

For plugs. Dual ground electrode
NGK: BKR5EKB-11
DENSO/TOYOTA: K16TR11
Both should only be about 3-5$ per plug depending on where you buy them.
Wire set only get the toyota/denso or NGK. They are relatively cheap as well and you get the wires that go from your coil pack on one plug to the other respective plug for 3 wires in total.
Now you MAY have a coil pack going bad. You should get the actual code of which cylinder is misfiring so you can diagnose if it is a coil pack by moving it to a different cylinder.
But do the plugs and wires first and see if that alleviates the MIL.
If you have basic mechanical skills then this can be easily done yourself.
And yes, that is a good writeup to follow.
Forgot to add that $592 is quite steep.

I'm replacing my plugs and wires this weekend.
Plugs = NGK BKR5EKB-11 = 4.29 x 6 = 24.74 (shuck's autoparts)
Wire Set = NGK TE66 = 28.69 (amazon.com)
Grand total = 53.43
A new coil pack is 67.07 if you need it (1sttoyotaparts.com)
Even if you replace all three coil packs the total would only be $255
Here's a good DIY write up: http://www.4runners.org/writeups/sparkplugs/

Yes, it is the correct number.Straight from the manual. I have these plugs in and I too have a 99 4Runner Ltd V6. Amazon is gay. Remove the "-" and all of a sudden it has matches.

My brother had this same issue and it was the coil pack. That would be my first suspicion. Test your plug wires with an ohm meter before you just throw money at the problem without first doing some troubleshooting. You will learn a lot in the process.
