98 4runner V6 crossover pipe removal
Hey guys,
I can remove JUST the crossover pipe and expect any kinda perfomance increase in addition to the air box mod and dynoflow cat back ive already done.
I know alot of you guys are saying just do the headers instead. But after reading alot of threads on the subject it sounds likethe ONLY headers to consider are the TRDs which as usual are way expensive. Therefore i ask the question..

Uh, I think he means the pipe that crosses from the pass side manifold over to meet the drivers side, not a low rpm enhancement crossover pipe like a dual exhaust system would have.
So, no, you can't just remove it. You COULD replace it - reroute it - but it won't help any. The REAL problem with that exhaust system is the manfolds and the WAY the crossover connects. All bad, no matter how you look at it.
Any headers are better than the stcok manifolds and crossover setup. I can't imagine where you got the notion that the only way to go is TRD - if anything, I could imagine thinking that about Borla maybe. (Not saying TRD is no good, just that I have never ever heard even one person claim it's best before.) You will see a substantial difference with even the cheapest headers. And fi things don't tend to rust badly where you live you can save a fortune and get inexpensive steel headers rather than stainless or ceramic at a rediculous premium.

If you can do the install yourself, you knock a substantial amount off the total cost. Yes, the install really sucks, but with an "extra" $300 - $500 in your pocket, it makes it a bit easier.
Total cost for HPC-coated Edelbrock headers, including miscellaneous tools and the necessary weld of the 4Runner downpipe flange, you are looking around $650 - $700 installed by you.
