96 Timing Chain Replacement???
We just got a 96 4Runner with the 4 cyl engine that we are going to try to sell to make money. It has 300000km on it and we don't know when the timing belt was done last so we want to do it before we sell it. First, what is the official name of the 4 cyl in this truck (ie the older ones were 22RE's). And how big of a job is this, anything to watch out for? Any step by step instructions online? I did the belt, water pump, etc in my 99 V6 Runner myself so I do have a little mechanical skill, just have never worked on one of these newer Toyota 4 cyls.I tried a search and found lots of info on the older vehicle timing chans but not ,much on the newer stuff. Thanks!

the 2.7 has 2 balance shafts that are driven by a second chain, you should replace both chains, Ive heard that it can be a little tricky to get things timed correctly, but if you've done a belt before a chain isn't much different, just more messy
