5VZE 3rd Gen 4Runner / 4th Gen Taco Fan Swap

I decided to go a different way with my electric fan swap. I didn't care for the on/off function of most fans either being "off" or running "wide open" with no speed control, therefore causing it to cycle on and off continuously, causing electrical spikes as it cycles. I also wasn't too keen on the 2-speed Taurus fan and having to piece together a control system to make it work properly.

A couple months ago, I ran across the Delta Current Control Website that offers a variable speed DC controller for electric fans and water pumps. I decided to order the FK-35 for $109.95 that includes the controller and the wiring harness along with everything needed for the install. Now that I found the controller that I wanted, I had to find the fan to go with it.

The stock radiator on my 99 runner is pretty big when compared to most electric fan shrouds out there. The OEM Toyota shroud measures 26" wide and 23" tall. Finding one that would fit perfectly is next to impossible. I did find one that was a very good match, and very similar to the single-speed Taurus fans on eBay of all places... Volvo V70 / S60 / S70 / S80 Electric Fan & Shroud. I got a good deal on it and the shroud is nearly a perfect fit since it's a full 24" wide and 17" tall and only 4" deep.

The OEM mehcanical fan is slightly offset to the passenger side and this fan is offset to the driver's side. This gives you even more clearance for the engine since the fan motor is more "out of the way".

i like the looks of that delta controller.. that presentation is pretty cool.

So, any progress yet?

How are you going to attach the fan you bought? Will you have to make some kind of bracket, or can you just zip tie it in place?

Also, how reliable will this be? I would hate to get stuck out in our deserts because of a cooling system failure. Someone just died recently b/c their buggy broke down and they decided to hike out in 114* weather.
