5000 miles service
Hi everyone,
What do I need to do for the first 5000 miles service for my 02 4Runner? I got a dealer coupon for 5000/7500 miles service interval for $36.90, I just don't know what they will do to my rig.
Thanks,

The ONLY benefit I see in going to this type of dealer service is their ability to find problems covered under warranty.
In my opinion, you dont need to take it to the dealer unless you suspect there is a problem with the vehicle (I am assuming you do your own oil changes, etc).
The big question is, how much is the coupon for?

This brings up another question I've always wondered about...
Alot of times it states that the warranty will be voided if you fail to keep up with the regular maintanence. Are dealers ever sticklers for that, or is that just another ploy to get to to spend your money with them? If you provide records receipts showing the work was done, is that good enough? Just curious.

Service advisers play a pretty big part too. I have had some good ones, and some real jerks.

The manual says what needs to be done at what intervals. As was said, probably just oil, rotate tires, inspection.
You are not required to have the dealer perform any regular maintenance or service to keep your warranty. And you really don't need to save receipts, but it is better. Just keep a log of what was done, the miles and the date. Follow the recommeded interval as stated in the owners manual. However, if you do something yourself and do it wrong, then that is not covered. I also keep all receipts for everything just to be on the safe side of things.
