If it is a threaded breather, then unscrew it and see if it is a 10mm thread, if so the diff breather mods would work. Otherwise, see if the cap pulls off and try fitting a hose over it. If the above are no good, try this:
![]() Since my '85 tranny and t-case(s) have no breathers, I drilled/tapped holes for pipe thread fittings: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...Shifter/3.html My reason for doing this is not so much keeping water out, rather in keeping gear oil fumes out of the cab, since the early boxes are vented through the shifters, the hot oil fumes can get up into the cab.
