4Runner Stalling Problems

Almost 138K. I guess that they must be the stock wires. I will have to see if Toyota replaced them with the plugs, if not, it's time to replace them for sure!!!

new wires well not have a year stamp .... i paid 37 bucks shipped for my ngks wires at www.sparkplugs.com

Checked the "toyota maintenance search engine" and did find anything that was not in the manual to check.
Replaced the PCV Valve, cleaned the MAF and TB. The TB was really dirty, I have never cleaned it since I owned the 4Runner. The MAF was not very dirty, but I cleaned it anyway. I checked all of the hoses for cracks and everything looked fine.
After cleaning the TB I took the Beast for a ride, it immediately threw a CEL. I cleared the CEL and took it for another ride. The CEL never came back.
The worst part is that the stalling problem still exists. I guess that I will have to change the plugs and possibly the wires to see if that helps. I only have about 15K on the plugs.
If the engine is not giving a CEL, is there a way to check the computer and see what might be causing my stalling problem?
Thanks for all of the advice guys. Since my wife has a 97 4Runner, working on mine will help when we need to do the same to hers!

what was the CEL #?
plugs and plug wires: stick with OEM Toyota, assuming you dont have a supercharger.
have you tried injector cleaners to see if that helps?

thank you .... i took off those god awfall running boards the other day and man what a change looks like i put on a 2'' lift need to update my sig but i cant tell they get the link button fixed

I did not take a CEL # as I did not have a CEL before cleaning the TB. I figured that the computer was giving me a CEL because of the TB cleaning.
I will take your advice Bob, and stick with the OEM plug wires.
After reading 18 pages about Seafoam, I thought that adding Seafoam to the fuel tank would help to clean the fuel injectors. If not, what is recommended for cleaning the fuel injectors?

Elton - Why don't you like the running boards? It helps my Grandma get it the back seat! JK! Must be better for 4X4. I have a 2X4 so it does not make a difference to me. I thought that it looked better with the boards.

I will have to post a pic of my Beast so you can see her in all of her agony! I have the black plastic fender flares, so it would really look dumb without the running boards!

so hows the stalling problem going?? ive had the same problem for a while and only started searching on it now. it would also happen after hard revving. the first thing im gonna try is clean the iac and throttle body. then imma check my plugs wire and etc. its been a while since i did a check up on the truck, its my moms, she used to bring it to the dealership all the time. ive been giving it more attention lately tho, just made 96k. i also notice the truck doesnt seem as powerful as it use to be, but it maybe from not driving it for so long.

Newbie question here. I searched the Forums, but not see a thread on this.
This has happened a few times. After hard acceleration my 4Runner would just die. I would coast to a stop and it would start right back up. It happed 4 times to me the other day on my way home from work. I have noticed that at idle sometimes the 4Runner shakes a little, it does not seem normal.
I purchased a Fuel Filter and installed it but it kept leaking. I tried 2 of them. I could blow thru the old one so I put it back on. The old one did not leak.
Is it possible that the Fuel Pump is going bad? Are they intermittent when they start to go bad. The 4Runner has been running fine the last few days.
Does anyone have a link to some instructions on installing a new Fuel Pump. I have a 1998 4runner. I have heard that some 4Runners have an access panel under the back seats that allows access to the Fuel Pump without dropping the Gas Tank.

First thing I did was replace my wires with some NGKs which didn't fix the issue... but they needed replacing anyways. I then finally got fed up with the issue. Mine was at the point of warm start issues, being able to rev the engine and it would die and sometimes while breaking it would stall. I pulled the TB and cleaned the IAC. I used a small screwdriver to loosen up the carbon deposits and everything has been flawless for the past two weeks. Also check your vac lines. A couple of mine had the beginnings of cracks and one shrank which was causing a small vac leak i believe.
