3rd Gen. Wheels on a 2nd Gen...

I just bought a set of 3rd gen wheels (the split Y design) and put them on my 2nd gen runner. The only problem is that I can't fit the center caps on the front rims. The bearing caps stick out too far. Has anyone swapped rims like this before and is there a solution? I've thought about wheel spacers but don't know if that will take care of it...Thanks in advance...

I put locking hubs on mine and cut the centers of the front caps out.

Likely. Depends on how thick of a spacer is used.
