3rd Gen 4Runner Lock/Unlock Alarm Beep... How to change?

So, I'm usually good about locking my truck from the door panel but sometimes I use the keyfob. The problem I'm having is hearing it.. If I'm walking away and go to lock my truck, I usually can't hear it's wimpy little "beep beep". The question I have is, is there a way to bypass the module that makes it beep to go to the horn instead so I can hear it unlock/lock when I'm a few feet away from it? Or is there any kind of way I can ditch the module and install a different sound? I'm not looking to install a new alarm system, I want to keep my factory alarm. From what I understand the alarm brain is wired to a little module that makes the beep so maybe I can ditch it and wire it to my horn? I can only hope it's that easy but I know it prob wont be. Any help would be great esp. if there is another thread on this. I searched here and google and found nothing, but I find it hard to believe I'm the only person to think of this.. Thanks

Waldz

I actually like the sound of it but I don't have it. You can trigger the the horn via a relay or two.

Locate the trigger wire from the beep-beep on passenger fender area close to firewall.

Come back w/ the polarity and I will give you a written digram and location to tap into your horn.

There is a way to adjust the volume of the beep using the fob if you want to try that first. I don't know where I found the document but I'm sure it was in a thread here or at t4r.org

I'm interested in adjusting the volume, I'll look into that but if changing the beep beep sound to a quick honk honk is easy too I'd be more pleased with it.

Thanks! It def. helps but I still wouldn't mind the extra "umph" to it like a honk or something. I found the module for it and gonna see if I can do a little wiring to a horn and see if it works.

I wish I would have known how to change the volume before. I now have it as loud as possible.

did a little wiring today.. in the long run didn't work with a horn. I took apart the module, which if you ever do make sure you have a soldering gun cus the wires are VERY VERY little gauge wire. I dunno where my gun ran off to so I can re-solder some new wires to the module but they are twisted together and beaned for now. I wanna try to find some specs on the module and see what all is involved with it. It def has more to it than I thought along with a soldered bridged resistor (type unknown atm), but I'm determined to wire it to a different tone. I'll let yall know the outcome.

My college roommate and I used to have a window overlooking the parking lot. His car would honk the horn when he used his remote to lock it, and he could turn the alarm horn on and off via remote as well.

We used to play the 'horn game' where we'd wait until a guy would walk right in front of the car on the sidewalk, then we'd honk at him. He'd stop and look at the car, then we'd honk at him again. The more times he'd stop, the more points you got.

It was even more fun to wait until someone parked next to the car and opened their door. We'd set off the alarm and the person would think they'd hit the car with their door or something and look at my roommate's car. We'd stop the alarm, and just as they'd start to walk off, we'd set it off again. Again, the more confused and distressed the victim would get, the more points.

It was kind of mean in retrospect, but it was funny as heck. This thread got me to thinking about it. lol

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul"

haha im jokin but the topic reminding you of that having nothing to do with the topic reminded me of the part in billy madison where he gave that long answer and had nothing to do with the question lol. Thanks for the laugh though, we use to sit at a barnes and nobles by the window and do the same thing to people.
