3.3 and 3.4 engines

Ok the new 2004 Solara 3.3 V6 VVT-i 220 hp and 240 tq is coming out soon and I thought came into my head why not swap the head and cams of the solara into the 3.4 in the Runners, Tacos ,and Tundras. I have heard about a guy on Tundrasolutions.com swaping the Lexus LX470 or the GS 300 heads and cams with positive results.
I this a possible and parctical mod we can do to enjoy the VVT-i.

Humm I don't know enough about the new 3.3 to tell if it is possible. But I thought the 3.3 was based off of the 3.0 block. Am I incorrect in thinking this?

To have VVT-i, you will also need some sort of a controller. I know the VTEC in Honda's better, and they run off of a "VTEC Controller" a seperate control box.

Actually the 3.4 (5vzfe) is the same family as the 3.0 (3vze) in my 2nd gen. Have no clue about the 3.3 since Toyota rarely uses the same engines in cars and trucks anymore. I'd venture to guess that it is the same family of engine as the 3.0 that was in the Highlander and Solara that had the engine gunking problems.

Travis-
Not sure if you are talking about i-VTEC or not, but old school VTEC runs off a solenoid in conjunction with the ECU. As you may know VTEC activation is dependant upon oil press, temp, timing, and engine RPM.

Now, if you were talking about the aftermarket VTEC controller, which electronically controls VTEC at a pre-selected RPM, then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

I may have misintepreted your original post, sorry if I did!

96 Runner is right about the old school VTEC but the new i-VTEC I think it is controlled by the ECU and Solenoid.
But as my original question can we swap the 3.3 Soloara or 3.0 Camery head and cams and find a divice to controll the VVTL-i

Do the coolant jackets, oil passages, tolerences match up?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but to get a solid answer you are going to have to do more research. I garantee no one here has done this, so I highly doubt you are going to get an answer.

You will need to at least get the headgaskets from each engine and match them up. Then, go from there.

You are looking at some serious cash and fabrication work. Let alone a wiring nightmare.

The 3.3 has been out since spring in the new Sienna.

I believe its called 3MZ-FE, from what ive seen its just a bigger version of the 3.0 liter 1MZ, with same componets off a 2003 camry/avalon. That sludging problem happens when idiots go 10k between oil changes over a period of time.

Ok looks like this will requier lots of money and major modifications.
One more question is it possible to swap a 00 or 02 Tundra or 4Runner ECU in to a 03 Tundra. The reason I ask is the 03 ECU does not respond well to mods like the older Trucks do. And also I hate the fact that the ECU controlls how much the throttle plate opens to let in air. Not like my 98 4Runner stomp it and the is no hesitation it just goes. But in my 03 Tundra when going 30 mph and stomp it the rpm climbs but then a 1 or 2 seconds later the truck starts to move why.
