3.0L v-6 swap

OK fellas..... somehow, this was missed by all of us. (at least, I've never seen this posted anywhere.)
It seems that the new Toyota Highlander uses the 3.0L v-6 engine. I know I asked about the Camry 3.0 in the past, (something about the engine being trans-verse mounted came up as a problem) WELL........ this rig dont have the engine trans-verse mounted AND its 220 HP (yes, 220) stock w/ 222 lb-ft of torque.
Now then, if this block is unchanged from the 2nd gen version of the 3.0....... this is a direct bolt-in!!! How do we find out? "I'm a medic Jim, not a mechanic!"
Need more fire??? TRD makes a supercharger for this engine boys&girls.

Input people.... ?

Well the fact that it's a fairly new suv meens you probably won't find to many engines, but that would be soooooo nice to have that much power. Plus the super charger, how much does that add btw?

Edit: what about the transmissions, I know they don't make a 5-speed highlander (do they?) so that's another issue.

I think the difference between auto vs. stick would be a non-issue IF THE BLOCK IS THE SAME. The engines arent exclusive to either auto or stick applications. (I have an auto.. you can put my engine in any rig w/ a stick, & vice-versa)
As far as the Highlander being new... yep. But I'm not looking for an engine right now anyway ....... 2,3 yrs. from now????
I'm not sure what kind of ponies the supercharger adds. 70 HP or so?
Heck, I'd be REAL happy w/ 220 HP. I dont know if I'd feel the need for the S/C. Who knows though????

Are you sure that both of these 3.0L V6's are the same motor ot just the same size?

I just don't Toyota would bring back the 2nd gen motor.

This is straight from the highlander brochure. The 3.0 is a double overhead cam (DOHC) 24-valve VVT-i V6. So it is a totally different engine than what we 2nd Gens. have. Not sure what a swap would entail. I am sure that this engine would be rather expensive.

These are questions I DONT know the answer to.... this is why we are bouncing this around!! (I love this forum) I'm wondering if the BLOCK is the same. You can do a whole lotta work to the inside of an engine and leave the block dimensions the same...

We need Jay........
It's probably wishful thinking, but it sure would be sweet if the block was the same.

While I'm not sure about the block, I do know that the 4Runner and Highlander transmissions are totally different. The Highlander's 3.0 is transversely mounted since it's front drive. Or at least that's the way I understood it to be.

Would be cool if one of those engines would drop in though!

Well, that's my thoughts on that.
Have fun all.

What about the pricey stablemates of the Toyotas? We could take a page out of the "ricer" handbook and swap Lexus power into our Toyotas. What is the motor in the RX300 or the ES? It's a 3.0 V6 isn't it? What's in the GS300?

I believe the RX300 and ES 300 share the same engine as the Camry (3.0 v6). The GS300 and SC300 have an I6. Maybe the same I6 that's in the IS300?

I'm all for the engine swap idea. Could get a "Powered by Lexus" decal on the side. Might make an extra 5hp.

Have fun all,

Lexus has some special tuning division (other than TRD) I read somewhere. Now that sticker would be worth 10 hp ...

I'm still trying to believe in something here...... everything else is gone. Santa, Easter Bunny all gone. Why not an easy swap for our 2nd gens? I think we deserve one!

One for Cebby

Cebby, to answer your question.......... I just got an e-mail from a guy I know w/ an 8ft. tall wing on the back of his Honda Accord..... This is official.
A "Powered by Lexus" sticker would net 8 real ponies.
A "Lexus Race Tuned" sticker.... 15 horses.

If we ever pull off our "dream engine swaps", I'm getting you a "Lexus Race Tuned" sticker. Call it a late birthday gift.

Guys, hate to bring the bad news but.............

The Camry 3.0 as I remember will not work in our 2nd Gens???
Dont remember why, I believe its because of the width of the heads. This would be because the Runner 3.0 is single cam heads and the Camry heads are 4 cam set-up.
Anyway I'm not completely sure.
But I do know this...
The Camry 3.0 is the same as the Highlander 3.0 and the Sienna 3.0 and the Avalon 3.0. Also the Lexus ES300 has the same 3.0 as the Toyota brothers, and the RX 300 also has the same 3.0. Although they are all different than the 2nd Gen 3.0.

This is why Toyota has such good reliability, they use known good products.

I'd like to see someone use a Lexus V8 in one of our 2nd Gens.
That'd be a nice motor.

so I'm looking at a great deal on one of these 3 liters from a highlander with 112,000 miles.
I have a 1st gen and don't hate my 22re, but I have no power when towing the boat. Heck I can even feel it when driving with an extra passenger!

Tech specs:
4 cam
24 valve
VVTi

I have an auto right now, don't love it but can live with it. I'm assuming that since a Highlander is front wheel drive, there's no way to bolt my transmission directly to the engine. I would love if someone told me differently about this.
