Question 22re not running right

Ok i did the headgasket and finally got her to run, now she starts and runs rough and dies unless u gas it. Also there is a wining/ squeling noise coming from the intake manifold.

I checked my timing and its good, though i have on question, on the cam tdc do u aline it with the "tit" that holds the cam gear on at 12 o clock or do aline it with that hole in the cam it self at 12 o clock.

Has anyone experienced a tooth jumping on the chain when they let the cam gear sit?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Doesn't mean one of the lines aren't split, or maybe got pulled off, or you missed an intake bolt, or its not loose enough.

I am having similar problems with a 22re I changed the head gasket on. Mine idles rough and when you hit the accelerator it bogs and won't rev up. The timing is correct. Anyone?

Can anyone confirm this? and does anyone have a vacuum diagram?

With a mass airflow sensor, if theres anyform of a vacuum leak letting in unmetered air itll run like ˟˟˟˟. I have seen the whistling noise, though not on a Toy. Im willing to bet you pinched one of the intake gaskets. If you can keep it running long enough, spray some carb cleaner around the vacuum lines and intake gaskets and see if the engine responds, its a quick way to check for a vacuum leak.

Thats a good idea, but still can anyone confirm my cam tdc problem?

Is 12 o'clock supose to be on the tit for the gear or the hole in the cam (if u look down at the cam)?

On the tit. 12 o'clock on the tit. notch on crank pulley at 0 and tit to tit on the cam. notch on dist. gear should be at noon. start and back timing to 5 deg.

Yep! Same problem as mine… It was the EGR. I did not think much of it when I put it back on, but I broke it when I was installing it onto intake, (the two bolt holes didn’t match up to well so I force it) I just replace it and it work just like new! The timing is still way too far over for my liking, but I can get it to 5 deg. BTDC so I’m not going to do anything else!! Good Luck and thanks to everyone for the input!!

Andrew!

Have you checked your compression since you installed the timing gasket? You might have a cracked block or head. Check the compression ,it should be between 128 and 171 psi.
