2002 4Runner Deckplate Mod
After removing the elbow in front of the airbox inside the fender, I get a check engine light- I presume it is due to increased air and the computer has been thrown off and caused the check engine light to come on. How can I reset the check engine light without having to go to the dealer?

just the elbow removal, because I have a supercharger, and Gadget says not to do the full deck plate mod with a supercharger unless doing all the other fuel mods- I am not doing the other mods, so I merely removed the elbow- should I take out the EFI fuse for a few minutes?

I guess the title on the thread kinda threw me off..anyway, you can unplug the EFI fuse for a few minutes and see if that works. I have a s/c too with the deckplate mod and the only fuel mod I did was the Free FMU which was also inspired by Gadget's site.

Hello Dana
If after removing the "EFI" fuse and starting the engine, you have the check engine light coming on immediatly, you have left something disconnected. The first thing that comes to mind is the MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor) connector. This is located just past the air filter housing towards the engine.
Pretty much all the other likely things that would cause the check engine light to come on, would take a while of driving before the computer actually performed a test to detect the malfunction.

I thought it was a black relay under the EFI square inside the fuse box under the hood
I think youll see what I mean this time.

OK, I see that there is a 20A EFI Fuse and an EFI relay- do I take them both out? How long do I leave them out before restarting engine? Should I take them out while the engine is running? Off? Key on? Key off? Key in ignition? Out of ignition? Sorry I am such a dufus, but this is my first new car in 13 years- MY other car is a 1978 GMC pickup with a motor, tranny, and four tires, and it just goes FAST....no computer, no EFI, nothing complicated. Thanks for the help

No luck- checked the MAF plug, OK. Everything is plugged in. Took out fuse. Kept out for a few minutes. Put fuse back in. Started engine, Check engine light stays on, then VSC and VSC off lights come on as well after a few seconds- ???

no big deal, my Toyota mechanic sid just to bring it in tomorrow morning and he'll reset it- I just thought it woud be a cake walk- the only thing different than this morning when everything was fine, is that the elbow is gone- same air filter, same everything- no elbow. ??

I dont see how the missing elbow could cause the check engine light to come on.
I would be very curious to know what the DTC # is, when your pal checks it.
The only thing I can think of, seeming how I always clear the codes using the Toyota Handheld scanner, is that they removed the ability to clear the codes by pulling the EFI Fuse.
